tunefs.lustre --print fails on mounted mdt/ost with mmp
Just checking to be sure this isn''t a known bug or problem. I couldn''t find a bz for this, but it would appear that tunefs.lustre --print fails on a lustre mdt or ost device if mounted with mmp. Is this expected behavior? TIA mds1-gps:~ # tunefs.lustre --print /dev/mapper/mdt1 checking for existing Lustre data: not found tunefs.lustre FATAL: Device /dev/mapper/mdt1 has not been formatted with mkfs.lustre tunefs.lu...

stop tunefs.ocfs2
Hi all, I upgraded ocfs from 1.2 to 1.4 after the update I launched tunefs.ocfs2 to enable the new ocfs2 features (sparse files and unwritten extents). tunefs.ocfs2 is now running since 2 days (12T partition) and I need my system back to production, can I safety abort tunefs.ocfs2? thanks Nicola

mounting a snapshot for backup.
...[319981.478168] (23483,0):ocfs2_fill_super:700 ERROR: Unable to create per-mount debugfs root. I then searched a bit, and found that ocfs2 can't mount an already mounted volume, and I was suggested to change the UUID of the snapshot device in order to be able to mount it. So I tried using tunefs.ocfs2 and got the following error: tunefs.ocfs2 1.4.1 tunefs.ocfs2: Trylock failed while locking down the cluster So I searched a bit and found that there was a patch suggestion for ?--force option to tunefs, http://oss.oracle.com/pipermail/ocfs2-devel/2008-July/002447.html and that it...

useless tools - tunefs.ocfs2,fsck.ocfs2
One of ocfs2 filesystem has some errors. 1. fsck.ocfs2 informs me that : "I/O error on channel while reading .. " It was NOT TRUE - I was able to read and write entire storage over the network multiple times. 2. becouse of CRC errors and suggestion to disable metaecc I run tunefs.ocfs2 --fs-features=nometaecc /dev/xxx funefs allocate 9,89 GB of virtual memory and 95% of phisical memory (4GB). After 4 hours process has been killed - because of out of memory. I have to recreate new filesystem and restore data from backup. I try to use tools in version 1.4 and 1.6 (newest...

[PATCH 9-10/10] Quota support for disabling sparse feature
Hi, I'm sending a patch for proper quota support when disabling sparse feature. The second patch fixes a minor problem in tunefs.ocfs2 when disabling the sparse feature. In a few days I plan to resend the whole "quota support" series with all the changes people request included... Honza

Question about increasing node slots
...e files and the Database files. We need to increase the node slots to accomodate new RAC nodes. Is it true that we will need to umount these filesystems for the upgrade (i.e. Database and Clusterware also)? We are planning to use the following command format to perform the node slot increase: # tunefs.ocfs2 ?N 3 /dev/mapper/mpath1p1

Require add extra 2 nodes into ocfs2 file system
I need add extra 2 nodes into current 3 nodes ocfs2 file system which means 5 nodes share this file system after it. I think this file system creates by mkfs.ocfs2 -b .. -N 4 .. which only allows 4 nodes. Questions: 1. How to verify parameter when this file system created? In this case, it is 4 nodes. 2. I assume I have to recreate the files system which will lost contains, if I use

How To change server recovery timeout
Hi, Our lustre environment is: 2.6.9-55.0.9.EL_lustre.1.6.3smp I would like to change recovery timeout from default value 250s to something longer I tried example from manual: set_timeout <secs> Sets the timeout (obd_timeout) for a server to wait before failing recovery. We performed that experiment on our test lustre installation with one OST. storage02 is our OSS [root at

[PATCH 0/9] Quota support for ocfs2-tools (version 2)
Hi, this is the next version of quota support for quota tools. I've addressed all the comments of Tao, Joel and others. Sparse feature disabling also correctly updates quota information now and the patch is merged into the tunefs support patch. Honza

OCF2 and LVM
Does anybody knows if is there a certified procedure in to backup a RAC DB 10.2.0.3 based on OCFS2 , via split mirror or snaphots technology ? Using Linux LVM and OCFS2, does anybody knows if is possible to dinamically extend an OCFS filesystem, once the underlying LVM Volume has been extended ? Thanks in advance Riccardo Paganini

Problems with fsck
Hi List, i'd like to share with you what happened yesterday. Kernel 2.6.36.1 ocfs2-tools 1.6.3 (latest). I had an old OCFS2 partition created with a 2.6.32 kernel and ocfs2 tools 1.4.5. I unmounted all partitions on all nodes in order to enable discontig-bg. I then used tunefs to add discontig-bg, inline-data and indexed-dirs. During indexed-dirs tunefs segfaulted and since then, fsck didn't work anymore. I managed to mount the partition again but after some errors like the following Jan 11 23:11:56 www1 kernel: [ 2339.642683] (mc,3305,0):ocfs2_block_check_val...

Clear Node
I am trying to make a mysql standby setup with 2 machines, one primary and one hot standby, which both share disk for the data directory. I used tunefs.ocfs2 to change the number of open slots to 1 since only one machine should be accessing it at a time. This way it is fairly safe to assume one shouldn't clobber the other's data. Only problem is, if one node dies, the mount lock still persists. Is there a way to clear that lock so the...

7-STABLE, gjournal and fsck.
...acts as a local file server, and I was standing against the wall, because one of gjournaled disks was the share itself... What I did was mounting gjournaled partitions in ro mode (it warned me that they were not cleanly unmounted) and doing some backup. Then I removed gjournal (gjournal clear, tunefs -J disable) from journaled disks, ran fsck (few errors of type: PARTIALLY ALLOCATED INODE), and then I was able to turn on softupdates back and mount the fs in rw mode. I've double checked the disk's SMART results in case of hardware failure, but they were ok. My question is: what cou...

Recommended journal size for /boot
I want to convert the last of my filesystems to ext3. The only one left is /boot. It is not very big however, only about 10MB itself. Any recommendations on what size journal to put a /boot filesystem of only 10-20MB? Oh, BTW: "tunefs -j -J size=..." is awesome. No more gyrations with dd, chattr, lilo -R, etc. Nice! One note however: even in Stephen's 1.20.WIP.sct-20010216 release, it is an error to use -j without -J ... I seem to recall that -j without -J size is supposed to estimate a journal size and create it....

Geom label lost after expanding partition
...uot;exit" to bring the system up, it failed to mount /usr. This was because /dev/ufs/usr did not exist! I assumed that gpart "lost" the label when it resized the partition (which looked like a minor bug to me), but I have been completely unable to re-create the label. I first tried tunefs and then glabel. (The handbook says glabel can be used, though the glabel man page is explicit that it can't.) Both complete with no errors, but neither fixes the problem. I still don't see any /dev/usf/usr. "glabel list" does not even list the geom. I do get the following GEOM...
