My remark on libraries
Hi R community, These days, I am writing some functions to work with 2-ways frequency tables ; you know all this tuff about measures of association: Chisq and derived (phi, cramer's v), tau b, tau c, somer's d and so on. So I consider all those functions could be gathered in a single R file, as they are coherent and dealing with the same problem / objective (analysis of crosstables). Nervertheless, I w...

Help - VPN w/ linux + samba; cross-subnet browsing and worse :)
...computer 4, but NOT use it's shares (it doesn't get C4's IP from anywhere). I tried using remote browse sync (in smb.conf) to ensure that computer 3 told computer 2 C4's address, but to no avail. Please help me! I've forever more and more impressed with samba, but networks are tuff, and this problem has been stumping me for awhile ! Sorry if this email was difficult to understand. ** ALL replies welcome ** :) Tim

Mailing list address harvested for spamming
...a unique address, it is trivial to write a rule to ensure msgs come from dovecot.org and discard everything else, I do that on LKML, works a treat. This address alone is a mailing list only address, direct messages go to junk folder, which I visually scan occasionally, and if I dont within 7 days, tuff, they're deleted automatically. Which is why it annoys me that some people on mailing lists feel the need to reply directly, rather than through mailing list. (Yeah I know its also shortcomings of certain mailers and mailing services (has gmail even fixed that yet) where hitting reply or re...

Mailing list address harvested for spamming
Not to stir the pot, but I notice my email address has recently been harvested from this list for spamming purposes. This email address is unique and not used for anything else. I'd distinguish this from spam sent to the mailing list itself, which is obviously different. Is there anything further that could be done to prevent this? -- Dave

got nut 2.8.1 but despite reinstall, shows 2.7.4
gene heskett <gheskett at shentel.net> writes: > Which file in the nut I pulled a month ago, should I start with to get > the new version actually running? I still get - -V=2.7.4 It is likely that you have built new nut but old nut is still on your system. I do a 'sudo make install' to write over the distribution nut (on NetBSD/pkgsrc, surely not what you are using).

printing through netbios alias
Hi, We are trying to set up a print server for our Windows domain on Samba 2.2.2 and Red Hat 7.1. It was decided to use a netbios alias for the print server so that it would be easier to move in the future if the need arised. From now on the actual netbios name will be reffered to as "server" and the alias as "alias". This solution has worked well on Win9x clients, however

Problem setting up dovecot on Debian: "telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused"
I would like to get dovecot running on my laptop so I can transfer a lot of old Email from Thunderbird mailbox files to a hosted zimbra service. However I'm falling at the first hurdle. I'm running Debian squeeze i386 (kernel 2.6.32-5-686) and have installed dovecot-imapd and dovecot-common with synaptic and edited /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf to make sure it has the right protocols

what''s your rails wishlist?
I''ve been working with rails for a while now. Rails is the second web framework I''ve tried. It blows the doors off catalyst (perl''s best framework). I even just wrote my first plugin (broomstick). Ruby''s ability to meta-program blew me away with it''s ease of use. I''ve been so impressed with the helpers that rails uses to make a lot of

Sanity, Manners and Shorewall Support
Hello Everyone, This morning I received a personal email from a recent poster asking "Why is Mr. Eastep so mean?". The post went on to explain that I had responded abruptly to the person''s request for help and asked why I wasn''t more helpful to people attempting to understand something new. Good question. Over the last nine months, I have been struggling to deal with

SSH trademarks and the OpenSSH product name
Friends, Sorry to write this to a developer mailing list. I have already approached some OpenSSH/OpenBSD core members on this, including Markus Friedl, Theo de Raadt, and Niels Provos, but they have chosen not to bring the issue up on the mailing list. I am not aware of any other forum where I would reach the OpenSSH developers, so I will post this here. As you know, I have been using the SSH
