Mapping Samba Server as a drive?
Hi, I was just wondering whether can we map a samba server as a drive? If can, it would be GREAT! This is because we can make users who log on to the server see different directories (like novell) and i thought it would be EXCELLENT if we can map the samba server as a drive itself. If we can, how can we achieve that? Thanks. adrian

RAID, LVM, extra disks...
...size of my /vz logical volume. However, if I could convert that to a RAID5 (it could be possible to re-install, but I would rather not), I could have 6 drives in RAID5, so I'd have 5x36 GB (180) of space available total, instead of 3*36 (108). Also, please note that this is a Dual PIII 1.2 Tualatin. I'm runing OpenVZ with virtual machines that are not really CPU expensive, but I would not like to see my processors spending most of their time computing XORs for the RAID5. Any suggestions/tips welcome. Regards, Ugo

I would like to create a Samba share supporting named writers, named readers, and no guests ...
I have not hit on the correct combination of parameters. Closest I come still allows the readers to modify - but not create - files. Not what I want. If someone can give me a hint, I would really appreciate it. Thank you. If I do this, reader1 can see the files (good), cannot create files (good), but can modify (write) existing files (bad!) ------- smb.conf ------- [native6-stuff] path =

syslinux-2.05 boot floppy failures, size related?
I have occasional problems booting kernel boot floppies made with syslinux-2.04/2.05. The symptom is that syslinux loads an initial part of the kernel image and then halts with Boot failed: please change disks and press a key to continue. Observations: 1. It's not a media problem. I've switched floppies and reformatted them, but the failure persists. 2. It's not a BIOS problem.

External Journal scenario - good idea?
...of the resident gurus for a moment, and solicit some advice, I thank everyone in advance who can take the time to offer their opinions. We are running a file server, which currently has as its "hard drive" an ATA-to-SCSI external RAID subsystem. The file server is a dual Pentium-III Tualatin 1.4GHz (512K cache) server, built on a Serverworks HESL-T chipset, with 2GB ECC Registered SDRAM. The RAID unit is a Promise UltraTrak100-TX8, with 8 Western Digital WD1200JB 120GB ATA100 7200rpm hard drives installed. 7 of the 8 drives are joined to a RAID5 array, the 8th is an unassigned h...
