Trouble syncing Palm via USB
...d
I have jpilot syncing fine with this Palm over the network, BTW. For
USB, I set things up for udev as described on various websites. Here
are the relevant ports & symlink (created and deleted automatically with
each sync attempt):
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Oct 17 09:09 /dev/pilot -> ttyUSB1
crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 188, 0 Oct 17 09:09 /dev/ttyUSB0
crw------- 1 marc uucp 188, 1 Oct 17 09:09 /dev/ttyUSB1
I added myself to the uucp group. It doesn't look like this is a
permissions issue, does it? (I saw a message in the list's archives
indicating that one must start jpilot a...

Comm Ports
How do you go about configuring comm ports in Wine? I have a usb to serial adapter that is using ttyUSB1 under linux. The program I want to use under wine shows only the standard Windows comm ports; i.e, com1, com2, etc. How can I redirect those to ttyUSB1?

[dongle0] timedout while waiting 'OK' in response to 'AT'
Yes I used.
The problem can be the version of Asterisk?
I use Asterisk 13 instead of 11.

And now onto the palm pilot with Kpilot
...raging. My Palm Pilot is actually a Tungsten E, not a T, but
I'm not sure that's a level of detail that matters at this point.
The Kpilot documentation suggest that I look for the palm pilot at
/dev/ttyUSB0. That didn't work, but I noticed in my /dev/ directory that
there was also a ttyUSB1. That didn't work either. But then I noticed
that both were only apparent when I was hot syncing my Palm, so they
must be connected to it.
Any ideas, then, as to why Kpilot is not acknowledging them as a Palm
device the way that lsusb does?

Palm Pilot, USB, pppd and udev
...link in my local udev rules:
BUS="usb", SYSFS{product}="Palm Handheld*", KERNEL="ttyUSB*[13579]",

And it seems to work fine for doing normal sync operation to Gnome Palm applet
(well, not sure about that KERNEL parameter, however ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1 look
exactly the same, no other way to specify "use second device" as far as I can
see). But, if I use the USB connection to connect to the network (using my
Linux box as gateway by running "pppd auth -chap +pap login local ms-dns

Changing permissions on files that only exist during USB operation
...world-writable, I'm not sure how to proceed. Retracing some of the steps
given tome on this list before, I can see that the relevant device files
have the following permissions:
[root at localhost dev]# ls -l /dev/ttyUSB* /dev/pilot
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Sep 3 11:57 /dev/pilot -> ttyUSB1
crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 188, 0 Sep 3 11:57 /dev/ttyUSB0
crw------- 1 dave uucp 188, 1 Sep 3 11:57 /dev/ttyUSB1
So, I either want to give the user "dave" permission to use ttyUSB 1 and
0, or make those files world-writable.
But where I hit a wall is that I can't figure out how to...

Usb, udev and nut
Hi All
I am connecting a ups via a usb to serial converter. Works fine,
however when the converter is unplugged and plugged back in, udev
creates another device e.g instead of ttyUSB0 it creates ttyUSB1. Here
is the udev rule that I added to the top of the 025_nut-usbups.rules
file in order to create a static symlink should udev decide to create
the device as either ttyUSB0 or ttyUSB1.

USB Serial Port receives no data
...lower case I should note, wine will not recognize COM1)
it actually starts sending out data (verified using a terminal on the
other end).
But it receives nothing :-(
The PC runs ubuntu lucid.
The serial port is a usb dongle
udev correctly detects the dongle and creates 2 serial ports ttyUSB0 and
ttyUSB1 (yes this is correct behavior for the device).
A piece of mono software runs fine under ubuntu using both the ports (as
it does under windows .NET on a Windows XP machine)
Wine version is 1.1.42
I noticed other people mentioning this bug, but found no resolutions.
Any suggestions?

Just confirmed that the default udev rules for Raspbian wheezy will create some symlinks in /dev/serial/by-path and /dev/serial/by-id which should be useful.

Re: Three simple problems
I now have my three com ports woking: com1 with symbolic link to ttyS1, com2 to ttyUSB0 and com3 to ttyUSB1. To get them to work I had to change permissions to the devices in /dev.
I had to make sure that everything in my windows application was set to owner richard and group users so I could get everything working without being su.
