Hi! I compiled 2.6.22.1 kernel on my CentOS 4.5 box, during boot up, rc.sysinit complains cannot find /dev/tty0 to get keymap (line 294), and I cannot login to the box via ssh, the passwd authentication do pass, but no console opened, ssh just hangs, and "ps ax" on the CentOS box shows "sshd at notty". There are only these ttys: crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 5, 0 2007-07-12 /dev/tty crw--w--...

using local media file to install guest
...to use the same iso to make a guest, but I do not want the gui on the server. I tried mounting, umounting it..I tried using dd to bring the bootable iso from the cdrom. the issue I think, but not sure, is the use of the console directive with virt-install. It appears --extra-args="console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200" works fine when using --location, but not --cdrom Unfortunately '--location" will ignore the path provided for the local iso and want to go to a url, an nfs, a virtual hard drive or cdrom....thus not able to install from local media. However, the text install...

Using syslinux to boot xen without initrd
...out an initrd. I'm following this guideline http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Xen for my syslinux configuration file, but without including an initrd. So it looks like this: LABEL xen MENU DEFAULT KERNEL mboot.c32 APPEND xen-4.3.2.gz dom0_mem=262144 --- ../vmlinuz-2.6.31.8 console=tty0 root=/dev/sda1 ro What happens is that it tries to load but keeps looping back to the bootloader menu. I think it might be expecting the initrd image. Anybody knows how to set the configuration file for xen so it doesn't need an initrd?? Thank You! Cheers, Ingrid

Redirect on both VGA and serial?
Dear List maybe a simple question. We have a pxelinx server in our network which only sent the output on a serial console. Now we want both output on VGA and serial console. I think pxelinux redirect the output default on VGA. So I think the only changes I have made is to add "tty0" into the "label" section in the "default" file. Is this correct? Mit freundlichem Gru? / Best regards Oliver Klein

print something on console after boot
CentOS 7 How do I print something on the text-mode console right after the OS has finished booting? I've a virtual instance and I need to know its IP address after it has finished booting up, to know where to ssh into it. I've tried adding "ip -4 addr > /dev/tty0" to rc.local, but that obviously doesn't work, because the login prompt overwrites everything I do. -- Florin Andrei http://florin.myip.org/

xen hg tree from yesterday hangs, when kernel console is directed to ttyS0
Hi, I am having the following setup: the kernel displays its messages to vga and to ttyS0. This works without xen. When I reboot my system with xen with the following options to xen and vmlinuz, xen.gz com1=115200,8n1 console=com1,vga vmlinuz console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0 the system hangs up while booting the dom0 kernel. Has anyone such a setup working? The thin is, I want a console on VGA and one on a serial line. And both should display all messages.
