On Debian 12: nsupdate (as called from samba_dnsupdate) crashes named/bind9_dlz
Hello,
I am testing Samba (v.4.17.8) in Debian 12 ("Bookworm") for use on two
DCs (as separate VMs) in a new AD domain.
"dc33" (IP: 10.150.10.33) is the first DC in the new domain
("ttwo.ad.example.org"), provisioned via 'samba-tool domain provision DC'.
"dc34" (IP: 10.150.10.34) is the second DC, joined to the domain via
'samba-tool domain join DC'.
The first oddity I encounter is I find that I have to manually run
'samba_dnsupdate' to cr...

45 Degree labels on barplot? Help understanding code previously posted.
...two of code in the help archives from Uwe Ligges about creating slanted x-labels for a barplot and it works well for my purposes (code below). However, I was hoping someone could explain to me precisely what the code is doing.
I'm aware it's invoking the text command, and I know the first ttwo arguments to text are x and y co-ordinates. I'm also aware that par("usr")[3] is grabbing the third element of the vector of plotting co-ordinates. But I tried replacing par("usr")[3] with just "0" and that didn't work; all the labels got bunched up on the le...

Obtaining SE from the hessian matrix
Dear R experts,
In R-intro, under the 'Nonlinear least squares and maximum likelihood
models' there are ttwo examples considered how to use 'nlm' function.
In 'Least squares' the Standard Errors obtained as follows:
After the fitting, out$minimum is the SSE, and out$estimates are the
least squares estimates of the parameters. To obtain the approximate
standard errors (SE) of t...

Replacing tabs with appropriate number of spaces
Colleagues,
Platform: OS X (but issue applies to all platforms)
Version: 2.8.0
I have a mixture of text and data that I am outputting via R to a pdf
document (using a fixed-width font). The text contains tabs that
align columns properly with a fixed-width font in a terminal window.
However, when the PDF document is created, the concept of a tab is not
invoked properly and columns do
