Migrate BACK to WINDOWS -> Talk me out of it QUICK
...ected via a dedicated 1/2 T-1.
Last year I migrated from a WINNT domain to a Samba/LDAP domain. It
has been running great. Basically did this for license reasons as
well as reduced administrative horror.
NOW:
We have just started to roll out Thinstation thin-clients that are
connecting to Win TSRV servers. What is being planned is 1 Terminal
Server per location. This will significantly reduce the adminstrative
nightmare on multiple Windows boxes and centralize it. However, this
is where I start to feel that I am having too many servers per
location, seeing that the windows server could do...

s3:gse: get an explicit ccache_name from creds and kinit if required
This means we may call kinit multiple times for now,
but we'll remove the kinit from the callers soon.
Before this one (using kinit):
$ smbclient -U mjt at TLS.MSK.RU -N //tsrv/mjt
Try "help" to get a list of possible commands.

Query about TSRV
Hi All,
This question may not belong here, but I asked this on the
R-SIG-FINANCE list and so far have not got any reply, so was hoping
someone here may help.
I have a basic query about TSRV and was hoping you all can shed some
light on the issue.
I have 22500 records for each day. So if I take the slow frequency as
5 mins I can have 75 subgrids. An estimate of the 5-minute realized
volatility can be obtained by selecting the first observation from
each of the 75 five-minute periods (...

DCERPC_NCA_S_OP_RNG_ERROR?
Hi!
I'm seeing quite a lot of messages like this one:

source3/rpc_client/cli_pipe.c:550(cli_pipe_validate_current_pdu)

RPC fault code DCERPC_NCA_S_OP_RNG_ERROR received from host tsrv!
in log.wb-TSRV file on a regular domain member server acting as a
file server.
This happens with at least samba versions 4.21 and 4.22. Domain
is handled by samba or by windows, - it doesn't matter.
The prob is that there seem to be no places in samba source where
such error code can be ge...

Aha. This works indeed. Thank you!

Why -k is being deprecated anyway? Can't it become a synonym
for --use-kerberos=required (and --use-default-krb5-ccache in...

'point-and-print' general questions
I have gotten 'point-and-print' working, but there are a couple small
issues/questions I am trying to get my grasp around:
- rpcclient print-1201 -U root%secret -c 'enumdrivers'
this lists the drivers twice (I saw one other post about this,
without any followup)
- When adding drivers via the Windows APW, after uploading the drivers
and the APW closing - are you supposed to

Runnung samba4 as classic domain controller, win7 thinks it is AD
...a samba3 DC and this my samba4 DC
(both are set up the same way, I just haven't upgraded samba3 yet),
and both shows the same name, like this:
"TLS" c0001000 "FS" "TLS"
"FS" 408d9b0b "tsrv samba server 4.1.11" "TLS"
...
Is this c0001000 enough?
Speaking of name resolution -- this is a single subnet, 192.168.177.1/26,
all machines receive configuration over dhcp, with the following info:
netbios-nodetype 2 (peer to peer)
netbios-ns $samba-server
netbios-dd $sam...

Runnung samba4 as classic domain controller, win7 thinks it is AD
Hello.
For may years we're running a classic (NT-style) domain with many
machines (mostly windows7 these days). Initially it was set up
using samba3, and now we upgraded samba to samba4 (4.1.11), without
introducing AD functionality (it is not needed).
I especially asked in several places whenever samba4 supports NT-style
domains, and got several positive answers.
Now, we're trying to
