Tweaking Samba for Perfomance
...opies from the server to the client take a very long time to compleet. How can that be? Why is that so slow? Much slower than the same action from a Windows server. I use Redhat 6.0 / Samba 2.0.5a and Win95 as a client. Does anybody knows a good reference for optimizing a Samba Server? Paul Rijke Truckland Amsterdam B.V. Policy Editor and Samba 2.0.6
...2.0.6? I'd like to secure as much as possible for my users. The helpfile says something like put a .pol file in the netlogon share... but that didn't work. Or did I something wrong? Well, I don't want to invent the wheel again so I ask all of you... Can it be done and how? Paul Rijke Truckland B.V. authentication failure
Hi, I've just installed Samba 2.0.3 and now I'm getting following error: PAM_pwdb[306]: 1 authentication failure; (uid=0) -> andreas for samba service I can connect to all shares and printers, but get the error. I suppose it has something to do with the passwords (I'm trying to sync Samba and Linux passwords). Any ideas? /Andreas

Non-root users cannot use smbpasswd
I've searched the archives for an answer to this problem, and yet nothing that works seems to have been posted. I've seen it posted many times In my particular case, I'm running Samba 2.0.6 on Solaris 2.5.1, configured with the --with-smbwrapper, --with-automount, and --with-syslog options. I also have samba set up as a PDC, and that seems to be working fine. A stripped down
