duplicated file removal: call for comment
.... This problem may be discussed now, because in versions before rsync-2.5.6, the algorithm for removing the so called "duplicated files" was broken. That's why we expect nobody used it anyway in earlier versions - but who knows.. Example: -------- Whe have treeA/ treeB/ treeC/ and treeD/, which may or may not have common files or directories in the depth. the contense of a file in treeA/etc/etctest for e.g. may differ from treeD/etc/etctest. In my example, treeA/etc/etctest contains the line "treeA", and alike. Let's look what's the way of standard unix programs...

Memory overcommit
I have been using Xen on a daily basis on a production (but not critical) machine for a number of months now. It''s looking really good. One thing that I have not yet seen anyone mention as a feature that I would really like to see is the ability to overcommit memory. I have 2G of RAM in my machine. I would like to give a developer his own virtual domain to sandbox his application

Add more space to LVM
I have a database server that is running out of space. All my databases are being stored in a 80G /opt partition. Because I'm using LVM, wouldn't I be able to pop the HDDs (a h/w raid volume) in, add it to the LVM, and resize my ext3 /opt partition? Everything that I've been reading says this is possible, but I'm not sure. Has anyone done this and are there any pitfalls to

Help on rpart
To whom it may concern, I am using the rpart() function to perform a recursive tree analysis on a set of data that includes both numerical and categorical attributes. At the end of the analysis, I would like to see the linear model at each node in the tree. In particular, I would like to see each node specific model coefficients associated with each of the independent variables and intercepts.

buildinstall cannot find modules
When using buildinstall and CentOS 5.2 to create my own CD minus a bunch of unneeded RPM's and plus a few of my custom RPM's I find that the install CD that gets build does not install an initrd which renders the system unbootable. I also notice that when I run buildinstall with the -debug option it says: unpacking

Xen/AoE skb frag array incompatibility
Greetings, Xen developers! I have been using AoE with Xen to great effect and I am very pleased with how the whole system has worked out. The two technologies really complement each other. I consider it the ultimate setup. Aside from the network switch (eventually to be remedied) my serving infrastructure has zero single points of failure. However, this virtualization paradise has a flaw:

Question about --files-from= and folder structure
I'm writing a script to sync some mp3 files. Due to a limitation in the number of destination files that can be read from my thumb drive, I'm not looking to preserve the original file structure (actually, I'm looking to sync *only the files* to the new destination directory). The source files are all subfolders under /backup/Music: ./Adrian Legg/Mrs. Crowe's Blue Waltz/Paddy

High Availability using 2 sites
We currently have a backup site at a different location to our main site. This backup site mirrors (as closely as possible) our main services, particularly web serving. Is there a way to have the backup site act as a failover for the main site using something like Linux-HA? They are on seperate internet connections with different IP ranges. Thanks -- Tim Edwards

Where is clustat
I thought I've installed the clustering tools, but when I attempt to run clustat, it says it doesn't exist. When I installed the suite, I ran: yum install -y GFS GFS-kernel-smp magma-plugins fence dlm dlm-kernel-smp gulm cman cman-kernel-smp CCSD is running and when I "cat /proc/cluster/nodes", I see my three nodes. Does anyone see the package that I missed for

CentOS/Apache Web Farm
I'm going to start this message with the CentOS list serve... I am looking into building a Web Server Farm using CentOS. Has anyone done this before? Could anyone offer some ideas I need to look at or in to? The Servers will be independent of each other and not SANS attached. That's the part that is throwing me off! I will be using some sort of load balancing, too. My
