Connections, but no voice paths except by console
I have a software-only PBX set up. I can register various softphones and
they will call each other -- but I've never succeeded in getting any
voice routed from any of the softphones. Only the console will transmit
audio.
I am writing to ask if I have missed some obvious step in configuring
the system.
Conditions:
(1) Softphones running on the same machine as the PBX: Only Kphone seems
to work reliably. Kphone will register and connect, but if I dial a
different softphone on the same machine and get ro...

Audio Transmit, speex
Hi,
I am transmitting audio over the network by creating an RTP session for each media track.
I am using the GSM media format. I'm still having a delay in the transmit if the receivers end is a slow network.
Hence i am looking forward to use speex codec to compress the audio further before transmitting.
Is the...

Can i prioritize my jobs with RSYNC ?
Suppose we have about 1000 files at location 'A' & 500 files at location 'B'
& we want them to be transmitted to each other (not exactly synchronizing
two location). RSYNC can do that, no issues on that. But i have few
queries further.
My first query:
1. Can we make some sort of queuing procedure alongwith or through RSYNC.
Like in which we can provide priorities to particular JOBs in a queue. Eve...

rsync: transmitting always whole files
...always copied completely. The problem seems to be related to the new (in
2.5.3) option -no-whole-file. The global variable whole_file is initialized
to -1 in options.c. In server_options() (options.c) it is set to zero if the
original value has not been changed. A value of zero on whole_file is not
transmitted to the remote rsync however.
So the remote rsync has -1 instead of zero on its whole_file variable. To
fix the problem I applied the following patch that forwards --no-whole-file
to the remote side if whole_file has a value of zero:

This doesn't make any sense to me, either. There can't be more packages
transmitted than received. It's the same codec in and out and it's been
running exactly the same time.

Reclaiming transmit descriptors by NIC drivers with Crossbow new scheduling
...ll become not only rarer, but more importantly
outside the control of the NIC drivers.
Some drivers, on the other hand, were designed and written before that
change. They used to
piggy-back the tx descriptor reclaiming at the end of the Rx interrupt
for example. At the same time, they
disable to transmit interrupt all together, in an effort to minimize the
number of interrupts to the host (and
the entailed context switches). As expected, that sort of approach will
(and it was actually observed) lead
to quick exhaustion of the Tx descriptors, with no one to reclaim them
soon enough under polling...
