police rate doesn''t work ?
...rio 1 handle 3 fw police rate 1000000 burst 90k drop I generate traffic with smartbits and i made this test: 1)len packet layer2 64 byte, packets per second 5500 = 2810000 bit per second 2)len packet layer2 1000 byte, packets per second 350 = 2800000 bit per second The 2 test is good i receive a trafiic with 2500000 rate limit ! The problem is with 1 test because i received full band 2810000 without any limit! Is there any problem with police rate? It doesn''t work with small packets? I''ve to set some other usefull parameter? Please help me !

Relay-only icecast with no encoders.
Hello. Let me describe my situation. In Ukraine traffic to outside world costs much more than ukrainian trafiic, so I want to save my money and make "mirror" stream server. I set up icecast 1.3 server in USA and now I want to relay stream. Encoder connects to my ukrainian server and sends stream, and users are able to listen; now I want users to be able to connect to US mirror and listen same strea...

How classes/filters work .. hmm.
What I need to do: shape every user on my LAN to 256Kbit -- class for web trafiic with rate X ceil 256Kbit -- class for other(p2p) traffic with rate 1Kbit ceil 200Kbit This is good because even if they have p2p programs running they will always have fast web surfing. I can do it with bash scripts - one class per ip with 2 children. But I wonder if something like this would...

Win32 services management?
Hi there, I just saw samba added the "net rpc service" for Win32 service management since 3.0.20, and it's fantastic. I used to use samba-tng to do this job, but now I can use samba! However, I also found it has limited usage. I cannot pass parameters when I start a service, and I cannot create a new service, too. Is there any plan for samba to extend this feature? -- Best

Policy routing and strange packets traversing.
...t I have observed some behaviour what I can''t understand.. What I expected was that trafic nated to 1.1.1.30 goes throught eth2 and traffic nated to 2.2.2.66 goes throught eth4. Unfortunatelly when become listening on eth4 with following command: tcpdump -n -i eth4 src 1.1.1.30 I can see trafiic which I am not expecting on this interface: 1.1.1.30.3145 > 217.98.144.187.20: P 1608:2144(536) ack 1 win 16616 (DF) 1.1.1.30.4282 > 212.77.100.17.5555: . ack 1889 win 17520 (DF) The simmilar is on eth2: tcpdump -n -i eth2 src 2.2.2.66 2.2.2.66.6114 > 217.17.41.85.8074: P 58257:58281(24)...

Browser related question
Greetings, How does one monitor if a site is being accessed using browser? IOW, I just want to know if a user has launched a session thru Firefox. I basically want to know if a user has tried to access the webserver and unable to reach it and log such instances. I am using cron and curl to seperately monitor the link. Any clues? Centos 5.2/Gnome/Firefox 3.0.16 Regards Rajagopal

HTB - not borrowing, not exceeding rate
...other LANs then direct it to # 1:6666 tc filter add dev eth2.24 protocol ip parent 1:0 u32 match ip src 192.168.5.0/24 flowid 1:6666 tc filter add dev eth2.24 protocol ip parent 1:0 u32 match ip src 192.168.4.0/24 flowid 1:6666 Filters look OK. AFAIK the last filter is the most important so even trafiic to 192.168.1.0/24 but comming from 192.168.5.0/24 will go to 1:6666 instead of hashing filters and user bandwidth HTB. The hashing filtes were working on previous setup and now users still have their proper bandwidth from the Internet. Here is the graph representing the traffic: http://tuxpowe...

RV: LATENCY PROBLEMS
Hello there, I''m having lots of problems with my setup here. Let me explain: I am network administrator for my university dorm. We are about 300 users, and we have 2 ADSL connections doing load balancing with 300kbits upstream and 2Mbit downstream. The load balancing is working great, we are doing connection tracking so I can mark and hence prioritize interactive traffic and ACKS
