Fwd: Re: Poisson GLM using non-integer response/predictors?
Hi, Use offset variables if count occurrences of an event and you want to model the observation time. glm(count ~ predictors + offset(log(observation_time)), family=poisson) If you want to compare durations, look at library(survival), ?coxph If tnoise_sqrt is the square root of tourist noise, your example seems incorrect, because it is a predictor, not the dependent variable tnoise_sqrt ~ lengthfeeding_log Best wishes, Matthias Am 30.12.2011 16:29, schrieb Lucy Dablin: > Great lists, I always find them useful, thank you to > everyone who contributes to them. > >...

Poisson GLM using non-integer response/predictors?
Great lists, I always find them useful, thank you to everyone who contributes to them. My question is regarding non-integer values from some data I collected on parrots when using the poisson GLM. I observed the parrots on a daily basis to see if they were affected by tourist presence. My key predictors are tourist noise (averaged over a day period so decimal value, square root to adjust for skew), tourist number (the number of tourists at a site, square root), and the number of boats passing the site in a day (log). These are compared with predictors: total number of...

Spatial AND Temporal Dependency with lme, or other function?
...d to find a solution with some spatio temporel packages and lme/lmer functions, but didn't find any similar example. I've got 10 locations on a coast on which the number of walrus was noted. I've got a distance measure between each location. We also have an indicator of the presence of tourists, and the number of seals. These information on each location were noted 10 times ( 2 summers * 5 weeks). We want to know how the number of walrus is affected by the tourists, the number of seals, the week of the summer and the location. For example, we think that they are moving east at the end of...

Re: Asterisk European Tour: was RE: * Party in Paris
...; Mark Well the Aussie's recently announced an additional travel warning for The Netherlands due to the increased level of petty crime although I feel it was a little extreme. The petty crime problem is very much specific to Amsterdam and foreign crims come into the city specifically to target tourists and their valuables. I've lived out here for 3 years now and enjoy exceptional safety where I live in Haarlem so perhaps an alternative major city such as Haarlem or Den Haag might be an option ? Hmmm... what size was that T shirt ? (c; ********* DISCLAIMER ********* This message and any...

OT: ManxPower 2005 European Tour
...en May 19 and June 21. Stockholm (VON 2005), Brussels (holiday/vacation), Amsterdam (holiday/vacation), and Madrid (Astricon). There are several weeks during my trip that I have no current plans for and may add other cities to my itinerary. I'm looking for recommendations for lodging and tourist activities in all of the above cities. I would be interested in meeting Asteriskers for drinks or coffee in any of these cities. I am also looking for employment in Europe. I would prefer the Benelux area, but all serious offers will be considered. I have experience in a number of areas inc...

Off-topic: (Simple?) Random Sampling when n is a random variable
Hi everyone, I'm involved in a discussion with a colleague. He suggested a sample design for a finite-sized process that (to all intents and purposes) involves tossing a coin and examining the unit if the coin shows Heads. I should emphasize that we're both approaching the problem from a design-based sampling theory point of view. So I have no argument about the appropriateness of the

IE Failure to Import Data
Hello, I've installed IE in Debian Etch, only because the real estate websites I must access absolutely require IE. I used IEs4Linux to install IE6, and it went flawlessly. IE works fine to surf websites. I must pull a report using ToolkitCMA.com. This site installs alot of IE addons (mainly report templates and an ActiveX control to print pdf's), and the install of these seems to go
