Our users move easily between PCs, X-terminals and workstations, depending on their application. A significant feature of TotalNET is you can use the normal Unix login facilities from a PC, saving the horrendous task of having to have two entire login user-name/password systems. I get an error "The user name could not be found" at the machine. All of these machines were joined to the same domain previously run by Totalnet Advanced Server, so the machines themselves are configured to be capable of joining. I was planning on using netatalk and samba until I thought about the lack of file locking b/n the two. So, I started looking at other options (like Syntax's Totalnet), but it's quite a bit of money just for file locking :) My question is - for those of you who run both samba and netatalk have you had problems with files getting corrupted due to lack of file locking? I have been trying to install 3.4p1 on a number of machines. Servers on ia64 Linux, i386 Linux and SPARC Solaris are all working like charms.
