Samba Printing + LPRng Issues
Hello,
I've got a domain setup working (more or less) with shares and accounts
as they should be.
However, I've come across two problems (so far).
When I click on the 'lp' share which is the printer, I get an 'Access
Denied' error. However, when I send a print job -- it prints properly.
Please note, there's the Samba server is connecting to a local LPRng

UPDATE: syncing unix passwords
I have some new information concerning this issue. I am now able to change
both the samba and unix passwords as anyone but root. If I try as root I
only am able to change the samba password but not the unix password. I can
do this at the unix prompt as well as in swat. So it works but why root
can't change both of them makes no sense to me. root can't even change both

More Info: Mac permission problems after Debian update
There seems to be a few people having this problem, but not much response.
I've dug into the logs, and while I don't know exactly what I am looking
at, I think I may have found something that may make sense to someone.
A short recap. Samba was working fine, until I did a Debian security
update, which upgraded my Samba to 2.2.8a. Now, I can create files on a

Is your Samba a NT4-style PDC? You are using Samba 3, I'm using Samba 4.
Anyway:
In my experiments I also had to set an additional regpatch for Win10 and
a Samba 4.3.x NT4-style domain for logon scripts - otherwise the logon
scripts are not

query WINS for all registered machines in an workgroup or domain
Hi,
I searched the documentation and the web but cannot find a way to query
a wins server for all registered machines in an workgroup or domain.
If I want to ask the wins with nmblookup, I have to specify a single
name to lookup, wildcards are not allowed.
If using the broadcast facility I can search with wildcards:
nmblookup '*' -B 192.168.0.255
querying * on 192.168.0.255

Sending a netbios message to the samba server himself

Connected. Type your message, ending it with a Control-D

From smb.conf:

3.0.1x, "min password lenght" deprecated, smbpasswd
Hallo @all,
since 3.0.10 parameter "min password lenght" is deprecated. If removing
the entry from smb.conf, the default of "min password lenght = 5" is
used. smbpasswd uses this entry if creating or changing passwords.
How can I set a min password lenght of 2 characters without the
deprecated parameter when the passdb backend is smbpasswd?
Think "min password
