samba password complexity help?
...es anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
So what it boils down to is:
0) what am I missing here?
1) where can I get an example crackcheck script file?
2) I have seen other suggestions to use pam. This might supersede some
of the tdbsam policy requirements. Is this a better method?

questions about password complexity checking.
...cracklib there is: pw_dict.hwm, pw_dict.pwd, and pw_dict.pwi
I am thinking pw_dict.pwd is the actual dictionary. It's in some sort of
binary format. Why do we not specify the file extension in the smb.conf
paramater?
4) How may we list/modify contents of pw_dict.pwd?
thanks for your time!

iptables is stopped on the samba server.
selinux is disabled on the samba server.

Multiple login failures problem
...ell, that's great, so let's say I go ahead and set up DNS. But we run
DHCP here. Am I supposed to key in everybody's address in the /etc/hosts
file, or the reverse DNS file on my Samba box? Isn't that kind of silly?
Or should I ask my ISP to do something?
Thanks for any advice!

Domain admins not getting local admin rights

be local administrator to the local administrators group on each
workstation, as we have quite a number of workstations, so I have not
tried this yet...
Can someone else suggest something for me to check or try? Thanks!

weird problem with "access denied" on share
...the tdb manually using pdbedit. I then
re-created this user, thiking somehow this might fix this gid problem
somehow. Didn't fix the share permission issue, though I can still log
in with local admin rights on the workstation.
This is really annoying!!! Can someone help???? Thanks!

Any suggestions?
Is there something I need to do to "pass the hat" to test2?
Can it be passed back to test1 afterward?
thanks!

Windows 2K/XP Profile/Homedir replication issue?
Hey there,
Just a question for you Samba 2.2.x gurus out there :)
We have a contingent (a steadily increasing contingent) of Win2K and WinXP
workstations.
Does anyone here know how to stop the profiles from replicating?
If we create a file in the profile dir, say \\PDC\UserHome\profile.doc.
It will replicate that to the profile directory, while one file or two files
are not a problem, we use

WINS servers and browsing
...n network and domain.
We are connected via a WAN.
Is the best practice to have one WINS server for each site?
Or is a single WINS server for the WAN the way to go?
Right now I have a single WINS server for the WAN.
I CAN NOT browse between networks correctly.
How do I test WINS anyway?
Thanks,
mtoal

2nd try: Cross subnet browsing wierdness
...me difficulties setting up browsing across networks and domains and was hoping some of you folks out there could help.
We have two separate domains on two separate networks. I have a single WINS server.
Why can I browse both networks from machine pw2 when I can NOT browse both from either ch2 or mtoal (my machine) or from streetsmary? (see details below).
Does each network need it's own WINS server since they are in different domains?
Then we use remote browse sync and/or remote announce to get them to talk to each other?
Here's some details:

Leftovers in Network Neighborhood
...some PC somewhere is feeding my WINS server bogus information, but my
CH1 Samba WINS server is master browser for the domain and for the local
network! Isn't it supposed to be the boss of WINS then?
How can I track down where Samba is receiving this information from and turn it
off?

trouble with ldap authentication on centos+openldap
Hi Samba List,
I've been trying to get a samba+ldap working on centos 6.3. I've had
some troubles adapting to the new slapd.d configuration format for the
openldap, which seems unnecassarily complicated. Most of the tutorials
refer to the older style slapd.conf configuration. I was following this
