Centos 7 tmpwatch
I have noticed that tmpwatch isn't automatically installed with Centos 7, or at least it wasn't when I set up this computer. I further noticed that the Centos 7 tmpwatch rpm no longer includes /etc/cron.daily/tmpwatch I suspect that at least part of the reason for this is because the /tmp directory is now mounted as...

Missing CentOS 4.7 update?
Unless I'm mistaken, does it look like Centos 4.7 is missing an update released on December 3rd 2008? Upstream details :- http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2008-0989.html An updated tmpwatch package that fixes various bugs is now available. The tmpwatch utility recursively searches through specified directories and removes files which have not been accessed in a specified period of time. tmpwatch is typically enabled and configured to clean up directories used for temporarily holding...

EL8: SElinux / dac_override / tmpwatch
Hi, I'm moving some old stuff from EL6 to EL8 and one setup has a cron job which uses "tmpwatch -umc $dir" to clean some directories (/etc/cron.daily/tmpwatch). It seems that this triggers this AVC (SElinux mode is enforcing): type=AVC msg=audit(1598576896.772:4267): avc: denied { dac_override } for pid=11013 comm="tmpwatch" capability=1 scontext=system_u:system_r:tmpreap...

EL8: SElinux / dac_override / tmpwatch

In general, we no longer use tmpwatch at all. In CentOS 7 and 8, use systemd-tmpfiles. Here is a blog post that describes it pretty well: https://developers.redhat.com/blog/2016/09/20/managing-temporary-files-with-systemd-tmpfiles-on-rhel7/ -- Jonathan Billings <billings at negate.org>

A --exclude-checksum option?
Hi, I use rsync with hardlinks for backup, once a week doing checksums to ensure there's no filesystem corruption in the backed-up data. I also use tmpwatch, or something similar, to clean up /tmp, it removes files that have not been accessed recently. (atime older than some configured limit). I backup /tmp because I throw stuff in tmp that I might possibly need again but don't want to bother having to remember to delete -- and if I'm expecting...

How about a forked session supervisor in dispatch.fcgi?
I was talking to a friend of mine who''s developing PHP on trax and we came up with a solution to the ruby session file problem. I''m not sure if this idea has come up before, so I wanted to run it by everyone before making any code contributations and/or talking to the Rails core about it. It seems to me that the current situation we''re in with regard to

Purge Trash Fileserver
Hello My fileserver is a samba 4.5.4, in Ubuntu 14.04, is all ok. My question is, Have the recycle bin enabled, and would like a way to rotate the files, already have something today that is via find Find /mnt/samba -depth -mtime +30 -print -delete This works however, it will delete the files inside the destination with more than 30 days, but this more than 30 days is not when it went to

I am not sure which script on the server is being run that completely clears the /tmp directory except for directories starting with periods. centos7 tmpfiles.d deleted outdate files
Hi all, I use centos7 and don't want to use tmpwatch as well as crond. I have a question to use `systemd-tmpfiles-clean.service` with my custom configured file in `tmpfiles.d` to delete outdated files periodically in some log dir. I have a `tmpfiles.d` configured file in `/etc/tmpfiles.d` named `my_log.conf` in following contents. ``` #Type Pa...

tempdir() may be deleted during long-running R session
Temporary files not accessed for a long time are automatically removed in some Linux distributions and probably other operating systems too, depending on system configuration. This may affect the per-session temporary directory, the path of which is returned by tempdir(). I think it would be nice if R automatically tried to recreate a missing tempdir() but this could have some performance

file "time-to-live"
Hi everyone, There is a way to make files being automatically deleted some time after they have been created? I know that, with some scripting wizardry i could achieve this, but i wanna know if samba has this kind of feature. I have a temp folder that users insist in use like a backup folder, so i want to files to be deleted 24 hours after they have been created. I cannot just delete

listing groups not working
Im having some problems with the samba 3.0.24 in Debian Etch when I try to list the groups, like this: wbinfo -g or net rpc group -U username All the times the output of the command is... "NOTHING". In samba 3.0.14 (Sarge), this works OK. I don't try in a newer version of samba. I test this with the debug on -d 4 with the rpc command and this is the ouput (see attached files).
