all packages that were installed just before and after the system crash

server change
Hi,
Recently we changed our samba server to a bigger and more powerful system ( centos 5.2 )
The config file and smbpasswd and other passwd and group files were copied to the new server and it then assumed the same identity as the old one in the dns and ip address.
It seems to have gone very well except we now seem to have a problem.
There are windows XP workstations that were domain joined to the

NT4 clients, although I've not verified that yet.
The only recent change I made was the IP address of the server. The
client have had their new IPs for some time now. I'm not tying samba to
any specific interface or IP.
ANy clues as to how to fix this?
Thanks

Problems with HTB. Help!
...nd what NETFILTER can do.
I have one machine that runs all my servers as VM''s. The P2P WinXP box and
the router are virtualized. So too is the Windows 2003 DNS server.
Please have a look at the traffic control script below and let me know if
I''ve done something wrong!
Cheers,
tkb.
Below is the script. You''ll note that I''ve even tried using a filter
(attached to eth0 - LAN) linking parent at eth0 going to a class on eth1 -
is this even valid? tc did not seem to complain about it so I figured it
must be okay.

Accessing member server prompts for credentials
Hi,
I'm trying to join a server as an AD member but it isn't working.
I do:
kinit ADMINISTRATOR@DOMAIN1.CO.UK
which prompts for the password and displays nothing else. Then I do:
net ads join -U Administrator%XXXXX
which returns:
Using short domain name -- DOMAIN1
Joined 'SERVER1' to realm 'DOMAIN1.CO.UK'
So all looks OK, but when I try to browse the shares on

LVM, usb drives, Active Directory
I have a client with a handful of USB drives connected to a CentOS
box. I am charged with binding the USB drives together into a single
LVM for a cheap storage data pool (10 x 1 TB usb drives = 10 TB cheap
storage in a single mount point).
The next fun piece is how to incorporate that storage space into an
existing Active Directory structure to apply AD acls for limited
access.
I'd rather

Inotify or equivalent
I installed inotify and incrond to watch a directory and set the
job as '/mnt/dir IN_ATTRIB chmod 0660 $@/$#' which worked very well
except that as expected, IN_ATTRIB is to broad of a watch class as it
caused an enormous amount of contention with the filemonitor and/or
db server and the client side app was less than happy. Not to mention
top showed it working away like mad...

Upgrade samba from 3.28 to 3.29 to fix winbind issue.
How do you upgrade samba from 3.0.28 to 3.0.29 to fix winbind issue? My
OS is CentOS 4.5. I haven't been able to find a RPM above 3.0.28. for
samba. I backed all of the files that I needed and removed the RPM's for
3.28 and installed 3.0.33 doing a ./configure, make, make install and
was hoping to reconfigure all the data but the smb service was not where
to be found I even rebooted the

Changing samba PDC version but keeping the same IP address
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello
We are facing a bit boring problem
We are on the way to upgrade our PDC from 2.2.8 to 3.2.11
as we do not want to reconfigure the PDC IP address on several
hundreds of windows XP clients we have chosen to keep the same
IP address for the new PDC.
The problem is windows clients does not update the name of network
drives and keep the old names

question on wget
Hello,
I've got an ftp site, not mine, that has content on it that i want
to download. It's not anonymous so it requires a log in. The problem is
either the ISP has a bandwidth throttle or the admin does, in either case
inconsistently as to the point in the file, but i rarely get a complete
download. I'm using ncftp. I was wondering if either ncftpget or wget could
do like an auto get

repository for mod_security
I want to add mod_security to my Apache server running CentOS 5.3 and am
trying to find a repository to get it from. I found it in EPEL, but
they have version 2.1.7, which is over a year old according to what I
found on the modsecurity.org website. Is there a repository which is
keeping this up to date? Or should I just build it from source?

Simple way to banish IP addresses ?
Hi,
I just set up a web server... and my bandwidth is being eaten by some
chinese folks trying to brute-force-ssh their way into the machine.
Is there a simple way to banish either single IP addresses or, maybe
even better, whole IP classes ? I know it's feasible with iptables, but
is there something more easily configurable ?
Cheers,
Niki

How to map ata#.# numbers to /dev/sd numbers?
On my C5 machine (a Dell XPS420) I have a 500Gb disk on the internal SATA
controller.
I also have a SiI3132 dual-port multi-device eSATA card. This is connected
to an external SATA array of disks.
Now occasionally I see something like this in my logs

ata7.01: irq_stat 0x00060002, device error via D 2H FIS

E-Mail Serving Options
Hi All,
What are my e-mail serving options? I need to host POP, IMAP and SMTP.
I must admit that non-windows e-mail hosting has always been a chore
for me. I remember QMail and QPopper IIRC.

Samba Question
Greetings,
There is a requirement of Samba server with the following specification:
There are two groups: Designers, Draftsmen
The share folder hierarchy is Project-->Final
Now the Designers groups should have rw rights for Projects and subfolders
The draghtsmen should be able to upload only files (not folders) to
Final subfolder. They are not allowed to modify/delete anything
anywhere.

Clonezilla SE with CentOS5
Hi all,
I'm looking for a cloning solution for our Windows/Linux/*nix computer park
and ran into Clonezilla. Apparantely the DRBL and other documentation
mentions CentOS as a suitable base for it.
Does anybody on this list use this solution and can say something about it
in the running-Clonezilla-with-CentOS-context, be it recommendations,
gotchas', warnings or whatever?
Thanks.

Low End NAS hardware.
Hey,
The recent discussion on NAS/SAN and the Thecus N8800 got me to thinking.
Bit of background. I have an old Dual Athlon MP2800+ that I'm using
for a home web/file server. It runs fine but between the noise of the
various fans and it's location in the living room, I've been asked by
my spouse to find a replacement for it that's smaller & quieter.
Looking at the Thecus, and

script help
Hi
I am sure the answer here is really easy but i am stuck!
# mount | grep data | awk '{print$1,$2,$3}'
gives me the info i require locally, however i need to execute this over
about 1000 hosts so i run things remotely using ssh something like
# MOUNTER=`ssh $i 'mount | grep data | awk '{print$1,$2,$3}''`
however this fails as at the end of the line there are 2 ticks

Directory and File Perms
I have a directory shared out via Samba for Quickbooks and seem
to have some issues with permissions. The directory being shared
is a subdirectory in an ext3 partition being mounted with the acl
option.
It has been setup as follows:
chown root:DOMAIN\AD_Group /mnt/Intuit_Data/
chmod 2770 /mnt/Intuit_Data/
And the Samba share config is has:
create mask = 0660
directory mask =
