[PATCH supermin] init: Don't perform ioctl (TIOCSCTTY).
Doing this breaks bash in virt-rescue with the error:
bash: cannot set terminal process group (-1): Inappropriate ioctl for device
bash: no job control in this shell
Also ^C etc does not work.
Removing this ioctl call fixes this.
I noticed the problem because supermin's init compiled with dietlibc
worked, since the dietlibc header files don't define TIOCSCTTY and
hence the ioctl

TIOCSCTTY problem/fix
Perhaps this is a known problem, but I only found one instance of someone
describing it on the net with no follow-up. I just installed openssh
(3.6p1) on a linux system (running an old 2.0.34 kernel) with privilege
separation disabled and get the following messages in /var/log/messages:
Apr 2 15:48:34 ernestine sshd[6153]: error: ioctl(TIOCSCTTY): Operation not permitted

error: ioctl(TIOCSCTTY)
Hi there
I've just upgraded to openssh-3.2.2p1 from openssh-1.2.3 and am having
some difficulties.
On one of the platforms I'm using (linux kernel 2.2.19 with glibc 2.1.1)
it works fine, but on another (linux kernel 2.2.20 with glibc 2.0.7) I get
this in the syslog every time I log in:
sshd[12277]: Accepted publickey for root from 212.38.67.158 port 2397 ssh2

tty chowning
About a year ago I outlined a scheme for arranging chowning of the tty
end of ptys without needing root privileges. Since then, I haven''t had
time to actually implement it.
I was thinking about the problem again today, and, having learned a
bit about sessions and controlling ttys and stuff, was able to come up
with a simpler mechanism.
First, observe that the POSIX session mechanism, if

SSH2/1 Failure when using bash shell, other shells work
Got a strange problem here. We have OpenSSH 2.3.0p1 running on a variety of
machines and on one particular Redhat 6.2 machine(all patches applied) we
run into a situation where it will not allow us to start a shell when using
bash or bash2. csh and others work fine.
One note...if I enable PermitRootLogin, the user root IS allowed to login
with bash. This is very strange. I'm guessing it

HP-UX 9 problems (hangs on logout; tty isn't sane)
I'm trying to get OpenSSH 2.5.2p2 to run on HP-UX 9.05. I've had some
decent results, but I'm also seeing some problems.
I'm using the EGD (I configured with --with-prngd-socket=/tmp/entropy).
* Compiling required some changes, which I've attached. Two of the
changes are "hackish", and not at all suited to inclusion in the
source tree, but they might point

"X11Forwarding yes" causes "error: socket: Protocol not supported"
Greetings,
I'm running OpenSSH_2.5.2p2, and OpenSSL-0.9.6a, on BSD/OS 4.0.
Following the FAQ, I added the following line to my sshd_config
in order to enable X11 forwarding:
X11Forwarding yes
Now openssh is disconnecting my sessions immediately after
authentication and login with the following error messages:
"error: socket: Protocol not supported"
"Disconnecting: Command

Problems with PAM and PermitRootLogin without-password
Hello all,
I was running some tests with openssh 3.7.1p2 and I noticed that
PermitRootLogin without-password does not work when PAM is enabled. In
fact, when PAM is enabled, PermitRootLogin will work as "yes" if "
without-password" is used, no matter what kind of authentication is used
for root login. Is that a bug, I missed something in the configurations,
or expected

console-sanity tool in klibc?
Hi all,
in a somewhat unrelated discussion, a user wanted to run gpg in an
initramfs generated by the Debian initramfs-tools package. Whether that is
a good idea or not is a different discussion, but he noted that /dev/tty
won't work in the initramfs because no controlling console has been setup
yet (I think init is the first program to do so).
So, I was wondering if it might be a good idea

[PATCH supermin 0/2] Allow an alternate libc to be used for init.
v1 -> v2:
- If we split out the init program into a separate init/ directory,
that makes it much easier to build against an alternate libc.
I tried to build against uClibc, but uClibc requires an entire build
chain, which looked like it was going to be a massive ballache.

New snapshot
I have just uploaded a new snapshot to:
http://www.mindrot.org/misc/openssh/openssh-SNAP-20001114.tar.gz
This snapshot includes Markus Friedl's new SSH2 RSA authentication work
and -R portforwarding for SSH2. Please give these a good test.
The new RSA authentications works similar to the current SSH2 DSA keys,
but requires a little modification to config files. Currently RSA

sshd fails when using cryptodev-linux to compute hmac
Hi All,
I'm having an issue where SSH sessions fail if I enable the cryptodev engine for HMAC. I'd like to confirm if this is a supported configuration and if there are any known bugs.
HMAC with the cryptodev engine works fine when using the openssl application directly, so I suspect that something in openssh may be the cause of the issue.
I tried this initially with sshd from openssh

5.1p on RHEL 3 and password expiration
[ Sorry for the length of this; I felt it better to provide potentially
too much info, rather than not enough. I've probably missed something
that's important, though! ]
I have an odd problem with 5.1p on RHEL3 if "UsePAM yes" and
"UsePrivilegeSeparation no" is set. The code detects that the user
password is aged (according to shadow) but then fails to let me

SSHD Bug with Pam/Winbind on FreeBSD ver5.2
I've reproduced this bug in versions openssh-3.7p1 and openssh-3.8p1
I've verfived that it works PERFECTLY in versions openssh-3.6p1 and
openssh-2.9p2
I have not tested any other versions.
The problem is sshd will not authenticate passwords off a NT4 domain using
winbind and pam.
Broken Debug output is:
debug1: PAM: initializing for "user"
debug1: PAM: setting PAM_RHOST to
