Tinycore & error in memCompress() in make check
Hi, I get the same error as mentioned in http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/error-in-memCompress-in-make-check-td3318922.html I try to compile R 2.12.2 under Tinycore 3.5.1 running in VirtualBox 4.0.4. Since first xz was not installed I must have used the internal version which comes with the R source tar ball. But after installing the xz 5.0.0 extension the error remained. Any idea what else I could do? Thanks Sigbert

New UEFI restrictions?
Previously I've been using a laptop with an "Aptio Setup Utility...2015" to "Disable UEFI Boot" and allow a USBstik with partition1 having: /boot/isolinux/isolinux.bin , isolinux.cfg , menu.c32...etc. to boot 64bit TinyCore. Now this newer laptop has: "Aptio Setup Utility...2018" which is completely different from the 2015 version. I fail to boot linux from any of my various syslinux/grub bootStiks. Has M$pook finally locked linux out of <WinTel> laptops? Or have readers here got a solution? =TIA c...

Can USB:syslinux install another USBstik?
When a USBstiked-syslinux starts, it's the PC's firmare that's reading the USB ? But once the USBsyslinux takes over, has IT also got a USB driver? Since my MotherBoard & 2009 Slackware built USBstik syslinux booter were stolen I bought a <WinTel> laptop and USBextender to access my old IDE & SATA disks. With WinTel's new arrangement of not allowing the tail of the

non PAE support
Does anyone know what I would have to modify in 6 if I wanted to run on an older Pentium M CPU without PAE? Is it just the kernel that needs to be rebuilt (maybe while installed in a system with a supported CPU)? Or are there other components that would cause problems and need to be rebuilt too? Thanks, Kevin

Trying to create bootable USB flash drive WITHOUT persistence

Just because it's there doesn't imply that the kernel/initrd have the logic to perform your goals. On the otherhand, also look at TinyCore Linux ( http://www.tinycorelinux.net ). > If it does, I have a second question. No. I'm not married to Slak. It's important to distinguish between verbatim/pasteable and what the old-writer merely thinks/remembers. I want to be able to boot ANY installation/partition as I

[PATCH 0/1] EFI PXE DHCP/proxyDHCP issues fix
...stomers. We offer multiple OSes and options so the hard drive has to be custom configured. The real DHCP server supplies client ip address only. Everything else comes from proxyDHCP. The proxyDHCP server supplies boot file name, boot file (syslinux.efi), boot loader (ldlinux.e64), config file, tinycore and OS image files. My actual test setup mimics the factory environment. I have a test network, client system, proxyDHCP, an off-site real DHCP server and a managed eth switch so I can mirror the client port for WireShark. The client is connected to an in-target debugger so I can step through...

Live linux booting
I have a need to have a live Linux (Debian or sysrescued ) to boot off a hard-drive so that the hard-drive ends up umounted after boot. (for running partimage ). I've gone down the memdisk iso route and read about the issues there - I've seen a way to do this by mounting over nfs (messy) - but I want to do this without the network. I'm thinking that there should be a way to loop
