slow tint when tinting the whole screen
Hi,
I'm running ubuntu edgy with compiz, switched from gentoo to ubuntu
for faster updates (emerge is way slow with source builds..). So far, I
like it.
but that is not the issue I'm addressing now. I've noted that with
both these machines, when I'm doing something that tints the whole
screen to gray (like trying to logout, or using some software that
prompts for sudo rights), it's really slow. Jagged. It seems that it's
not vertically synced or something.
Other tints, like when some program has gone haywire and stopped
responding to the system, works well...

Ploting graphics using X tints from a color
Hi,
I'm trying to draw a 2D plot using multiple tints of red. The
(simplified) setup is the following: || year | x | y ||
My idea is that each year is plotted with a different tint of red.
Older year (lightest) -> Later year (darkest). I've managed to plot

xyplot with different symbols and colors?
Dear List,
I try to make a xyplot with different colors and symbols, I came this far:
library(DAAG)
xyplot(csoa~it|sex*agegp,data=tinting,groups=target,pch=list(1,2),auto.key=list(space
= "right"))
this produces a plot with different colors and symbols but unfortunately
the legend does only follow the color scheme and not the different symbols.
Any suggestions what to change?
And how do I change or switch of that bac...

RailsCron usage question
...accessing a table that my View code will be
accessing as well? Since RailsCron ads functionality to an
ActiveRecord, I''m tempted to just enable a method I''ve written to
populate the table to be called via RailsCron.
I''m new to web apps, so I apologize for the noobish tint to the
question. I expect that MySQL would be keeping the commands atomic and
that I should be OK. Does Rails handle this kind of semaphore-type
action? Or am I thinking at the wrong level(s)?

Problem with VorbisEncoder
...libvorbis and libogg. There is lots of noise in the file except music is heard very feable in the background. To compare, I have created an ogg file with the same configuration(same quality) using GoldWav. I have observed that even the headerpages differ from the file i have generated.
I am using TInt ret=vorbis_encode_init_vbr(&iInfo,2,44100,.4); for the setup
Why are the headers of my file and the file generated by the GoldWav differ when both files are to be recorded with same quality level?
Also Please let me know the cause of this behaviour? or

Dynamic image resizing and caching

I also have various filters implemented, adding the concept of filter
sets (which is a series of filters, identified by a string). For example:
/images/blog-thumbnails/21/150x100/filename.jpg
blog-thumbnails is the name of a filter set that could apply unsharp
mask on the resized images, tint the colours to match the design, etc etc.
This works incredibly well. It enables us to play around with effects
and image resizing at whim in views and stylesheets, through external
API to Flash etc.
There is one catch though: This is begging for DOS-attacks. Results are
cached, but processing...

fMultivar functions not loading under R-2.7

Convert date to integer
Hello, I have a dataframe containing dates, times and other parameters. The
times have the format "h:m", e.g. 13:00 or 5:30, R classes them as factors.
I want to change the times to integers e.g. 13:00 -> 1300. I tried to use
"chron" to create a chronological object, but it didn't work for the times
(yust for the dates).
