use samba timeserver for linux box
Hello. I have a small network with a dialup connection to the internet. When the server is online to collect mail, etc I use ntpdate to synchronise it with a local timeserver. The windows machines on the network set their time using the timeserver in Samba with a "net time ..." bat file. This works well. I would like to synchronise the linux machines using the samba time server

Timeserver sending wrong time to Windows Clients
Help Andrew! and whoever else.. I have a Linux Mandrake 7.2 box with Samba 2.07 acting as a timeserver for our local lan. We are in the CST timezone. All windows boxes sync thier time from the Linux box via: net time \\Nemesis /set /yes. I would like to have xntp keep the clock on the server updated. Problem: ntpdate and xntp work great at setting the Linux box hardware clock to GMT. The

Timeserver Timezone Mismatch BUG?
I am having a terrible time getting the hardware clock, system clock and the time served to my winXX boxes to jive on my Mandrake 7.2/Samba 2.07 machine. I have my clock file, timezone and localtime links set to America/Chicago. No matter what I do, if I use UTC for my hwclock, my system clock on the Linux box is fine, but samba passes system time +6 hours to the windows clients. (Yes I know CST =

Timeserver Timezone Mismatch -- BUG?
I don't think my original post made it, so here is a repost of my problem. time issue with puppet
Hi, I have the following manifest that basically syncs the time for nodes really out of sync and ntpd can''t drift the time back fast enough. The problem is that when puppet executes the catalog, and puppet changes the time, puppet never finishes because it can''t calculate the "run time" since puppet changed the time during the puppet run. Is this a bug? Should I do

NTP on CentOS 3.4
Running CentOS 3.4, I enabled the ntpd service and noticed that it opens up a hole in the firewall for ntp from 127.127.1.0. I look in the ntpd initscript and see that it's reading in servers from /etc/ntp/step-tickers. However, that file is empty... /etc/ntp/ntpservers contains clock.redhat.com and clock2.redhat.com, but ntpservers isn't used *anywhere*. This looks like a bug, but

Aastra 480 i
Getting "no service" display on aastra 480i. Sip debug shows an "unathorized" blub when the aastra tries to register. Some reading indicates that 1.4 firmware wants aastra.cfg and mac.cfg in /tftpboot/. There are none. Anyone have basic config files? Or can point me to a good link? All links I have tried, that purport to have config files, are either dead or error out.

Classicupgrade succeded with Sernet-samba-4.2.1 AD, but Kinit not wokring
Thanks Luis I have changed ccdc.lan to CCDC.LAN (NOTE: I cannot change the LAN suffix, this is an old domain that needs to be imported into the samba 4.2.x version, it's a production domain and cannot be changed, furthermore it's on an isolated network. P.S. I have used the same name / procedure with the official samba 4.1.6 ubuntu package and that has give no error whatsoever) I am

status on samba trusts
Hi, Having read the release notes on the status of trusts within samba, we see for 4.9 > "improved support for trusted domains" but we also always see these messages: > "Both sides of the trust need to fully trust each other!" and > "DCs of domain A can grant domain admin rights in domain B" What we would like to achieve is a one-way incoming trust

Centos 7 and ntp
I've curious about where and how Centos 7 gets its ntp configuration from. When I installed the operating system, I went through this page and told it to use "network time", as shown: http://media.if-not-true-then-false.com/2014/07/06-centos-7-date-and-time-748x560.png I just discovered that i don't actually have ntp installed on this computer, though the rpm does exist when I

Two samba 2.0.7, one dialup line and excessive connects ...
Hi everybody. I have to admin two offices, about 500 km apart. Because we're in Germany and dedicated lines (and even VPN ones over the internet) are very heavy in cost, we use a dialup ISDN connection. That is online almost 8 hours a day, but still cheaper. Now the remote office said that their e-mail was too slow and I installed a second samba server for them, being a logon master so

Network time sync and reverse NetBios name lookup
I made a somewhat deep check for time synchronization and I couldn't find what I was looking for. What I need to do is synchronize the clock on a Linux box to the clock on an NT server. I can't use NTP or any other protocol because the NT box doesn't understand it. Any pointers would be great. The second issue is that I need to do (if possible) a reverse NetBios name lookup by

ntp time server
Currently, my time server is a Sun v240 with a 32-pci gps card (with a proprietary Solaris driver) attached to our gps receiver via an sma cable up to the roof of my building. As I'm migrating almost all of our Solaris servers and services over to CentOS, I'd like to know what other people are using for time server hardware. Any suggestions? -- Andy Harrison public key: 0x67518262

status on samba trusts
Hi, No replies unfortunately. Unsure why. We searched the list, and we found little discussion on the subject of trusts. We see occasional questions, but they are often left unanswered, like this one. If someone could point us to some good up-to-date docs on trusts with samba then we would really appreciate it. We setup a test environment (one samba 4.9.4 testad2 AD, one native windows

time server directive and synchronizing Win XP clients
Hi all! I have configured a Samba PDC (3.0.7) on a Fedora Core 2 machine with LDAP authentication (conform http://samba.idealx.org/smbldap-howto.en.html). I have about 180 Windows XP Pro clients using this PDC to log onto the domain, which works great! However I seem to have trouble synchronizing the time on the clients to the time on the server. The users (in group Domain Users) do not have
