Small site survivability
We are currently moving away from a wide-spread Cisco CallManager deployment to Asterisk. For many of our small sites we have the routers configured for what Cisco calls SRST so if we have a WAN failure, the router acts as a SCCP registrar. We are converting to SIP, and from what I can tell Cisco wants a license for each router to run SRST over SIP... So my question to the group is: What are

Voicemail config help - require password
How do you require a password for a voicemail box? I have been searching all day, and can't find any type of "security" setting for voicemail. I am looking for some what to have some minimum security like "no blanks, can't be the same as the extension, can't be sequential numbers or repeated numbers". I know that not all of these options may exist, but there has

Best dahdi switchtype to emulate (network side)?
We are connecting a new device to our voice system, and the vendor has a whole list of "supported" network devices and associated parameters for the Telco to adjust... Yes, it's the telcos issue... Anyway, out of all of the swtich types that dahdi can emulate, what is the most complete/tunable solution? The premise for those interested is a PRI connection to a Dialogic card,

Experience with LLDP
Hello, LLDP is more and more available on various network elements (endpoint, switches, ...). It seems to ease network configuration. Do you have any experience with it ? How would you rate LLDP ? Asterisk error - 1.6.2 SVN - voicemail files "corrupted"
Hi, I know I am using SVN, but I was wondering if anybody ever came across this error. I can't read my voicemails because files seems to be corrupted, for lack of a better word. When I do access my messages, I get those errors: [Dec 2 19:45:05] NOTICE[25993]: app_voicemail.c:7432 open_mailbox: Mailbox: /var/spool/asterisk/voicemail/xxx/709/INBOX, expected 0 but found 3

Why shouldn't I use 1.8?
Now that we've hashed out some thoughts on the most stable version of asterisk, I'd like to ask the question as to why I should NOT use 1.8? What are specific reasons? For instance a few days back I was speaking with James at Rhino Equipment. He said that he has "no real data" on why I shouldn't use 1.8. They just follow a practice of not jumping on the newest version. But I

Sending calls to a particular T1 port.
We have two Asterisk servers. One is a live server supporting our customers, and the other is a backup server that's being upgraded and pressed into service. Both servers have a Digium TE405P T1 card in them, and in order to test the T1 service on the backup server, I've created a T1 crossover cable (as per http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/crossover+T1+cable) that goes from port 4 on the

The Guilt List
I''m not a paid developer, but I still feel guilty. I thought it might be entertaining to have a little "programmer confession." So let''s hear an answer to this simple question: What makes you guilty about your Rails development? Mine is a bad one: I don''t write tests. I understand that TDD makes sense, but I just don''t do it. I''ve
