Ambisonia proposal
...e channel mapping type is not enough for defining all combinations of horizontal and vertical orders above 3rd order. for example 9 channels can be interpreted as 2/2 or 4/0 (2nd order horizonal 2nd order vertical or 4th order horizontal without any vertical component).
Mr. Oli, if you are AKA Mr. Thuns, you will see from
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=df4dtw69_3626qqq6st
that we adopt the Thuns / Travis scheme that allows us to specify any number of channels up to and beyond 255 without ambiguity and without further mapping types or metadata.
We believe the scheme we propose will slot into Vo...

Interfacing between Optimization Software and R
...Gams).
I am writing a small article on this interface and was wondering if there are situations, where R-Users would be grateful for having the possibility to interact with solver software.
Any reaction would be very much appreciated.

Different HostKeys for different hostnames or IPs in the same sshd?..
Hello!
Like many organizations, we have "disaster-recovery" location, where separate
servers are running ready to take up important services should the primary
location fail.
Some of the services provided involve accepting files over scp (and sftp), and
here is the problem... The primary and the secondary hosts use different
host-keys... If the hosts were accessed as

Flash Vorbis player
Hi,
I wanted to let you know that I have just made available the sources
to the ogg + vorbis implementation in haXe, which I've been working on
for last couple of weeks. The code compiles to an swf file playable in
Flash Player 10.
A demo of a simple player implementation (latest Flash 10 required):

It plots some stuff, but using par(ask=T) doesn't let the plotting pause.
Any idea how to do this?

FreeBSD-9.1 would not boot on pentium3 laptop
Hello!
I have an old Dell Latitude C800 laptop (with Pentium3 CPU in it).
FreeBSD 6.3-STABLE was running fine on it, but I decided to update the
machine to 9.1-STABLE.
Well, neither my own custom kernel, nor even the official 9.1-RELEASE
CD1 would boot... In both cases the boot process runs up to detecting
uhub0, then either hangs forever or shuts off after a short while.
Again, I thought I

Download daily weather data
I'm writing a program that will tell me whether I should wear a coat,
so I'd like to be able to download daily weather forecasts and daily
reports of recent past weather conditions.
The NOAA has very promising tabular forecasts

Bad soundquality on inbound calls.
Hi all,
This is my first question to this list, so please be gentle...
Last week I installed a X100P FXO-card. And with not much tweaking I had
it running fine, there is only one problem right now and it is the
soundquality.
When making a call sound is always perfect, both for the calling party
and the called party.
The problem is recieving phonecalls. The soundquality differs a lot
then. The

dynamics, clipping, 0 dBFS
I have some questions about how a sample is encoded in Vorbis
regarding the dynamic range. I try to figured it out by reading the
Vorbis spec and I failed. But I found this quote from Monty:
?Vorbis, BTW, can handle, for sake of programming simplicity, >200dB
range. Just for kicks.? [1]
It's still unclear to me what that means. Should I think of Vorbis as
a floating-point format or a
