shorewall + tos + netbios
Hi Tom, How are u? hehehe I have a question. I have 2 pc with redhat 9.0 configured with ipsec freeswan 1.99 (vpn) and i have to tranfer file from one to the othert one. I see that ftp tranfer have a throughtput is the double than a netbios tranfer... why??? I supposed the problem is the TOS.(/etc/shorewall/tos) and i modified the file like ftp... in this method. #SOURCE DEST PROTOCOL SOURCE PORTS DEST PORTS TOS all all tcp - ssh...

htb2 -> htb3 problems
Hello! I need to switch from htb2 to htb3, because of speed issues (for me, htb2 is unable to handle more then 100mbit duplex with ~550 classes), kernel profiling shows htb_dequeue_prio at 1st place with 3x isolation. So, I''ve moved from 2.4.19 to 2.4.25 kernel (hi-pac for classification/marking and htb3 for queueing), and traffic rate drop from 100 to 20mbit. What can be wrong? The

Guaranteed rate per class and maximum ceiling per element in class???
Hi all, It is my understanding that with HTB, the rate and the ceiling are divided over the elements of the class. E.g. using a rate of 100 kb and a ceiling of 2000 kb for a class with 10 elements on a 100Mb NIC, the effect of the ceiling will be that if all elements are generating their maximimum possible trafic they will be effectively limited to ~ ceiling / number of elements, in this case

trouble with maxbw
Folks, I''m playing with maxbw on links (as opposed to flows) in Crossbow, and I have a couple of questions. First, the limts seem only advisory. The first example has the main host talking to a zone that has 172.16.17.100 configured on znic0. When there is no maxbw, the throughtput is as expected; when maxbw is 55M the throughput only drops to 76 Mbps: # netperf -H 172.16.17.100 TCP STREAM TEST from ::ffff:0.0.0.0 (0.0.0.0) port 0 AF_INET to ::ffff:172.16.17.100 (172.16.17.100) port 0 AF_INET Recv Send Send Sock...

compression + max file size upload liimit?
I am using Mongrel Cluster with Apache 2.2.3 + mod_proxy_balancer and would like to enable compression (assuming it improves throughtput) and limit file size upload. I configured mod_deflate and LimitRequestSize in Apache, but in my trials looks like the proxied calls bypass those directives (the conf goes below). Is there a way to get this? -- fxn NameVirtualHost *:80 # Configure the balancer to dispatch to the Mongrel c...

big file server #2
...hoices i wanted one flat TB so h/w raid was not an option (i could not spread one raid system over 2 boards ; maybe i could have set 2 h/w raid systems, one w/ 2 disks and one w/ 3 disks, and flatten it with an lvm, but it looked hairy...) so I choosed s/w raid with raid0 i could get a disk write throughtput of ca. 50 MB/s, whereas raid0 only gave 15 i found that overall performance was a little better w/ md devices vs. lvm devices, so i definitely choosed s/w raid 0 i tried ext3, xfs and reiserfs and went for xfs (best performances, supports ea/acl ...) i had to tune the disk io subsystem (mainly w...

tune Samba NAS video server and Windows XP clients ?
Hello, I need to tune Samba for maximum throughput. Our NAS server is used for MPEG2 viteos storage. We stream and copy files at the same time. Network is a full gigabit : switch Linksys SRW2016 (jumbo frames enabled) + category 5e wire Does anyone has got an idea of which is the theorical throughtput of Samba ? Currently I have +o- 20Mbytes/Secs ... On big files I can go up to 40Mbytes/Secs With AppleShare+Netatalk I can got up to 60Mbytes/Secs How can optimize Samba or my system or clients to boostup transfers ... I've get my config from FreeNas. My samba is setup to act as Wins Serve...

Bandwidth Analysis
Hi All, Can anyone recommend an opensource bandwidth monitoring tool that can plot throughtput and breakdown into sockets/services for proving the performance of my qdiscs? Re: LZO compression for NBD ?
[adding libguestfs list, for nbdkit reference below] On 10/4/18 8:39 AM, Stefan Fröberg wrote: > Hello. > Is it possible to improve NBD throughtput with LZO compression ? As in, have a way for the client and server to negotiate that both understand an LZO extension, at which point the client can request a read or write with a flag set to mark that the data is LZO-compressed, for less network traffic but higher CPU usage between the client...

--bwlimit - writing vs reading performance
...ite-from-local-to-remote cases, the actual throughput does not correspond to the specified bwlimit. But at least the actual throughput increases as the specified bwlimit increases - in the read-from-remote-to-local case, changes in bwlimit has no impact on the actual throughput. And the actual throughtput is a lot less than the case when bwlimit is not specified (0.4 MB/s vs. 7.4 MB/s) bug in bwlimit implementation? thanks Pei L. Ku
