Problem decoding .flac files
I've been having problems with Amarok and K3B, but I think it comes down
to a problem with flac. All my music and audio files are encoded in
flac format. I've ripped my CDs using KAudioCreator and using this
command to encode them (split for formatting):
flac --best -o %o --tag=Artist=%{artist} --tag=Album=%{albumtitle}
--tag=Date=%{year} --tag=Title=%{title}

What retard did the Flac API? It looks like what CS students do short before

Flac Files Messed Up By Amarok
A while back I posted about issues with flac files that were not able to
be decoded. Here's what I do know:
I've ripped most of my collection to my hard drive using KAudioCreator
and I've specified that they be stored in flac format. All files play
without trouble through Amarok. I found out there was a problem when I
had selected files in a playlist and picked "burn"

Encoding Streaming Audio -- Possible?
I've been reading the info on Sourceforge about Flac, but there's one thing
I'm not clear about (and it looks like Flac may not support this yet).
Before I installed it, I wanted to know if Flac would do what I need.
I want to be able to record shows on the radio (I have a radio hooked up to my
Soundblaster Live!). From what I've read, Flac doesn't do that, since it

He obviously has emotional issues. He'd rather piss and moan than refactor
and recompile the library to get what he wants. It's not like 5 letters is a
big deal, and that's coming from someone who has had to work 8-20 hours a day

Codeweaver's Wine - Autolaunch?
I had a little trouble installing WINE and, becuase of that, tried several
different versions. It turned out the sound trouble was not a WINE issue,
but a devfs issue, so I deactivated devfs (devfs=nomount).
I am using the latest RPM of Codeweaver's WINE with Mandrake 8.1.
I've got Codeweaver's WINE up and running now. When I first tried this, I
could type a win .exe file from

Access Denied Error On Windows XP --> Linux Printer
I'm running Samba Version 3.0.14a on Debian Linux. My sm.conf is listed at
the end of this message. I have two printers on server.thresh.lan, a Brother
HL-1440 laser printer and an HP-5510 Office Jet
(printer/scanner/fax/copier/gopher and dishwasher). The Brother is named
"laser" and the HP is named "multiuse". I have a multi-boot system on the
LAN that can boot

Shares Work, Browsing Doesn't
I have a small LAN that is mostly Linux. I use Windows for testing my
software and a few other limited uses. I recently had a server crash
and could not reconstruct my smb.conf file. I don't want to act as a
domain controller or have the Windows systems log on to the net.
All I want the Windows systems to do is to see the Samba servers and
browse them to find the Samba shares and to

Printing from Linux to Windows 2000
I've seen a lot on printing from Win boxes to printers on Linux boxes. I've
found very little on printing from Linux to Windows printers. The HOWTO has
some information and I've found several other sources, but I still can't get
my Linux box to print to a Windows 2000 printer.
I'm using Mandrake Linux 8.2, Samba 2.2.3a, CUPS (I'm not sure of the version,

Standard encoding rates?
Is there a list somewhere of "standard" encoding rates? I know, for example,
CDs are encoded at 44100, as is a lot of digital sound, but I've seen
programs that specify different levels of quality (like radio, phone, tape,
CD) and I'd like to know if there are some encoding rates that are accepted
as standardized for recording at different levels of quality.
If so, is there
