trouble with ferdora core 5 with samba
...stalled the latest version of Ferdora Core 5 with samba. The
installation of Ferdora is fine, and I can see the shares I have set
up on my Win XP Pro machine. But, there is a problem with the
rights. I have made the files on the linux box 777, but I can still
not write to the files. It is as though the files are still read
only, even though they should be read/write. I am also having a
problem implementing the users into the groups though Webmin. When
I create a new user under Webmin and then go to add them to the
groups I have set up it gives me an error. Says it does not have

That was actually a debate several years ago (though I can't figure
out the search to find it). It seems the best option would be for a
new version of MailMan to allow a per-subscriber option to address
this (though this would be an enhancement request for MailMan) though
the above filter should help.

AD order of installation
....php/Setup_a_Samba_Active_Directory_Domain_Controller
There is an 'order' of installation for an AD. Some things must come
before others, some things can come when you may. Here is my take based
on what I have learned over the past weeks:
OS installation (listed for completeness, even though this is a 'dah' item).
NTP time services
CUPS (seems to go anywhere, though)
Samba provisioning (this includes ldap and kerberos setup)
DNS with DLZ
Kerberos
DHCP/DHCP6
Adjust Samba configuration
Start Samba
Do I have the order right? Have I left anything out?
For a file server (which I...

[PATCH 1/2] virtio: console: Fix poll blocking even though there is data to read
From: Hans de Goede <hdegoede at redhat.com>
I found this while working on a Linux agent for spice, the symptom I was
seeing was select blocking on the spice vdagent virtio serial port even
though there were messages queued up there.
virtio_console's port_fops_poll checks port->inbuf != NULL to determine
if read won't block. However if an application reads enough bytes from
inbuf through port_fops_read, to empty the current port->inbuf,
port->inbuf will be NULL even though...

PERC 6/E continue switch between "write though" and "write back"????
...er 0
Dec 9 07:38:29 host01 Server Administrator: Storage Service EventID: 2189 The controller write policy has been changed to Write Back.: Battery 0 Controller 0
================================
I double check PERC 6/E is NOT on battery "learn cycle". When it change to "write though" I also use OPMN check status and NO battery low issue.
I tried to use OPMN change status from "write though" to "write back" but it not work.
Anyone know why PERC 6/E status continue change?
Thanks.

Accessing files though samba and efficient copy
A while back I tried to come with a solution to a problem - updating an application
(consisting of a large number of files) which is accessed though a samba server.
The problem was that when updating a file which is open / in use in windows,
Bad Things (tm) happen. Unix allows such update "behind windows's back", and
when windows tries to open this file again, it discovers this is a different
file already, and fails badly.

Debugging slow apache server?
hello,
i'm using an apache server to host 8 virtual hosts.
even though this server is local.. 7 out of these 8 virtual hosts open extremly slow..
it takes around 10 seconds to open a page..
though the 8th (which is a completely different site) it opens fairly fast in around 1 or 2 seconds tops..
i tried tailing the error_log and i found nothing ..

pass-though Intel gpu int o a vm
Greetings,
I have a server that run a vm with several nic pcie cards as pass-though.
the board has an intel gpu and the hdmi output is not used.
I thought of booting up another vm and pass the gpu into it.
I found several discussions on the subject stating that it isn't possible but all of them are several years old.
I wonder if that has changed? is there a way to pt the vga t...
