Pxelinux image filename oddity?
...ts in either a crash or a reboot, depending on how the kernel was built
[root at leire linux]# cat /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/C0A80165
label linux
kernel boot.0
Please use these as examples as you wish.
I'll go off now to build a working initrd.
Thank you for great tools.

Kernel-utils stupidities (readahead and cpuspeed)
...able, but no attempt is made to insmod this, so even if this is
set, cpuspeed still fails. A simple fix is to check for the presence of the
above /sys entry, and if that is missing, modprobe $DRIVER. Without this,
cpuspeed will never work on my systems.
Does it work elsewhere?

CentOS-5 - kmod-gfs dependency issue?
...roblem - where the RPM I want to install
depends on an RPM that can't be installed? (well, I'll be able to jam it
in, of course, but...)
Is this just me doing something silly (capability-upgrading a system
after having run an update), or is this an actual dependency issue?

Mysql login-problem after recent 4.1.20 upgrade (CentOS4.3, x86_64)
...dpackage mysql-4.1.12-3.RHEL4.1.* \
mysql-server-4.1.12-3.RHEL4.1.x86_64.rpm \
mysql-devel-4.1.12-3.RHEL4.1.x86_64.rpm
fixed it again.
This was with a current CentOS 4.3 install, running in x86_64 mode. Can
anyone confirm this?
I'll see if I can do this on i386 as well.

Yum upgrade to 4.4 problem
...can play
around a bit more on this machine, I tried doing a yum upgrade (without
specifying samba) and it behaves the same (ie yum consuming increasing
amounts of memory while "Reading repository metadata (etc)".
Has anyone else experienced and been able to resolve this?

CentOS 4.4 - added disk prevents system from booting past initrd
...is an extended
partition, with /dev/sda5 being the partition that holds the filesystem.
Thus fsck'ing /dev/sda1 does not bring any useful. But why?
Why does the initrd insist on fsck'in /dev/sda1, when it should check
LABEL=/?
Is there something I'm not getting here?

R-beta: slice.index in R
I am currently trying to port a couple of S or S-plus add ons (Multiple
imputation) to R.
Since I do not have S or S-Plus it is a bit of a trial and error
process. Most things though,
run smooth. I encountered however a function "slice.index" for which I
cannot find
any R counterpart. I have searched the different available
documentations such as the
S-FAQ and S-Plus-notes with no luck.

iSCSI target in CentOS 4?
...ng into iSCSI, and I'm wondering if there is an iSCSI
target (I've found the initiator in iscsi-initiator-utils) that ships
with CentOS, or if not, what the recommended target would be. I'd like
to export either a partition or (preferably) a file-as-a-partition.

Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI NCQ-issues
...ug.
My workaround, which was suggested somewhere else, was to disable NCQ;
(in rc.local)
for D in sd{a,b,c,d,e,f} ; do
echo 1 > /sys/block/$a/device/queue_depth
done
This resolves the above issue, and from several times an hour, I have
not experienced it since (~30h).

mkinitrd-4.2.1.3-1 unsuitable for 2.6.13+ kernels?
...menuconfig-screens does
indeed look different.
So - are there any plans for an mkinitrd upgrade, either from CentOS or RH?
Alternatively, is there a workaround for this problem?
I have not spent much time picking initrds appart yet, but I will be
happy to assist in testing.

r8169-driver CentOS5.2
...possibly that the
r8168-driver sets some PHY-state that was not lost at the kernel-update
that brought me the 'working' r8169-driver, or something similar.
I'm taking suggestions, tho.
Anyone else with this same board, CentOS 5.2 (x86_64) and using the
r8169-driver?

Kernel-upgrade breaks forcedeth-driver (CentOS 4)
..., the above system was attempted installed with CentOS 5 (.0 and
later with 5.1), but this was aborted due to 'networking problems', so I
am thinking that the problem possibly persists at least as late as the
CentOS 5.1 install-kernel.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

ACPI reboot-issue (CentOS 4)
...ymptom after a BIOS upgrade. On these acpi=off does
not cause other problems, so this is no issue for us now.
Any suggestions? I think I understand that turning ACPI off basically
turns APM on, and that APM reboot works. Is there a way to do reboot
with APM instead of ACPI?

LVM and hotswap (USB/iSCSI) devices?
...csi 27:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device
hfs: unable to find HFS+ superblock
So - LVM seems to believe my LV is still attached to scsi27, while it
now actually sits on scsi28.
What am I missing here?
How do I get LVM to use a persistent device instead of a transient path?

USB disk dropping out under light load
...g the disk again, it seems happy, and fsck passes without
comments, and restarting the torrent-clients works well, so the data on the
disk is at least reasonably intact.
Does anyone here have similar experiences or does anyone use USB-disks for
any extended period of time?

I want to run some functions written for S-plus and residing in a file
