Looping multiple output values to dataframe
Dear R users, I have various vector geometry operations to perform on 3-D coordinate data located on multiple (500+) csv files. The code I have written for the calculations works just fine. I have written a 'for' loop to automate the task of extracting the coordinates from the files and perform the analyses. The loop works reasonable well, but if the number of csv files is greater than

shared XL file problem
We are currently having a problem with a shared XL file on a samba server. There have been no changes to this server in a couple of years and this file has been in use during the whole time. This problem all of a sudden just cropped up about 3 weeks ago. UserA cannot open the file ThisFile.xls. All other users can. If all users connections are dropped from the file and sharing is stopped then UserA can open the file and allow sharing on the file and then all users can open the file except for UserB and UserC. So if we knock off all Users and discontinue sharing then UserB and C can...

OT - How to stream a A-Law/wav file to a browser ?
Hi, How can I create a web page allowing people to listen (with their own PC) a couple of .wav/a-law files stored on a Linux server ? Chances are users would access this web page from Internet Explorer but if I could make it available to other browsers, that would be better. I googled a bit and couldn't find a tag such as media://myaudiofile.wav that would fulfill this spec. As much as

I've just upgraded our little network here to 2.0 beta 5. The server is a Data General Intel box running DGUX R4.20. Compile and install went incredibly well and things have just about working straight off. However, we experienced a little 'funny' this afternoon. A user was creating and deleting a postscipt file in a Unix directory. She then used Ghostview on the PC client to

A kind member of R-core suggested this is due to a misconfiguration on my system, and to post it to the mailing list for troubleshooting. When trying to build R version 4.3.3, in at least two places during the process it gives LaTeX errors of the form: (example 1) you should 'make docs' now ... make[1]: Entering directory '/home/btyner/R-4.3.3/doc' creating

authentication against win2k3 server
I've been trying to setup Samba to authenticate users against accounts existing on a Windows 2003 Server without any backwards capability. Ideally, this needs to be done without any changes to the Windows 2003 Server. Users will not be logging into the Samba shares at all. This is merely for authentication. I'm running FreeBSD 4.10-Relase #4 with Samba 3.0.8. This is my smb.conf file:
