how to fix a factor
Hi all,
I created a data frame with three factors, plus the response that
looks like this:
x1 x2 x3 y
a 1 1 0.3
a 2 1 0.1
b 1 1 0.4
c 4 3 0.1
...
I would like to analise the effect of two of them, keeping the third fixed
(I already know the effect of the last). The reason why I don't create several
data frames for each value of the thirs factor is simply convenience (I'd like
to be able to decide which factor I want to rule out)
for example I'd like to write something like
boxplot(y ~ x1 + x2,...

Slow network to samba machine
Sirs,
Thank you for any time that you take to read about my problem.
I have a Linux (redhat) 8.0 mail server set up with;
qmail
dhcp / dns
transparent proxy to internet - adsl
HTML & our web pages (nothing special)
SAMBA
This problem has been with me since RedHat 7.3 and thir packaged samba.
If I transfer a file from the mail (linux box) box to a win98se box it takes
a minimum amount of time.
If I transfer a file to the mail box from a win98se box it takes enormous
amounts of time
for example a file of 100k from mail to win98 - 10 secs
a file 0f 100k...

merge with origin information in new variable names
...10,var.A=sample(letters[1:4],10,TRUE))
DF.wave.2 <- data.frame(id=1:10,var.M=sample(letters[5:8],10,TRUE))
DF.wave.3 <- data.frame(id=1:10,var.A=sample(letters[5:8],10,TRUE))
Now; I would like to merge the three dataframes into one, but append a
suffix to the individual variables names about thir origin.
DF.wave.all <- merge(DF.wave.1,DF.wave.2,DF.wave.3,by="id", [what to do here])
In other words, I would like it to loook like this.
DF.wave.all
id var.A.wave.1 var.M.wave.2 var.A.wave.3

Difficulties with dataframe filter using elements from an array created using a for loop or seq()

## The first vector is created by using a for loop

## The second vector is made "by hand"

TextDrive complaints
Hi all,
I have deployed my Ruby On Rails application on TextDrive.
At first everything seamed to be fine. However, lately, response time of my
application is incredible slow.
Worse, lately there is also a lot of downtime.
I have contacted their support desk, however, they do not respond (at all,
or very, very late).
Has anyone else these experiences with TextDrive?
And if so, what did you do

Erin,
moreover, R has some nice facility that allows to write a function for
Windows, another one for Mac and a thirs one for Unix-alikes and place
them in subfolders of ./R with the right names, see the Writing R
Extensions manual.
