Passing TFTP server IP address via pxelinux config file
It is possible to pass the IP address of a TFTP server to pxelinux config file. Scenario: I'm trying to network boot a thinstation image file (http://thinstation.sourceforge.net) via PXE. However, I'm using a DSL router as my DHCP server and Argon CMS (http://www.argontechnology.com/cms) as my PXE/TFTP server. When it initrd is execute and the network adapter is detected and TCP/IP stack is loaded, it tries to TFTP down...

Thin client server setup
Hi, I am thinking of settting up a thin client server setup. I would like to set it up to work with linux and windows. I was going to use Symbiont but it says it needs a different version of linux to install. Has anyone used it with Centos before? Would it be easier to just install LTSP and set it up. I would like to b have a small box that does the dhcp and then allows users to logon to

10 year old question
Thank you for that. I?ve set up the thinstation-v5.6.1.iso in vm and setup the chroot. I did my first ./build ?allmodules and wrote the iso to usb using lili version 2.0 so that I can boot with older syslinux. I am doing this for the needed hardware profile to build from inside the vm however the usb has been stuck on the syslinux version line w...

R on Thin Client with Win 2003
I'm having some fun with R on a Windows 2003 Server talking to a Wyse Winterm running Thinstation Linux. The Winterm boots Linux from the network and then runs rdesktop to a Dell 1750 server (dual 3G Xeon or somesuch). The first problem I noticed was that R (and the terminal) ground to a near halt during demo(graphics). Further investigation showed that it seemed to be due to having par(as...

Multi-NIC network boot floppy+cd+hd+com with PXE and NBI support: does interest?
...s both PXE (like pxelinux.0) and NBI images. I've prepared a precompiled multi-driver image that can autodetect and handle nearly 30 PCI and ISA NICs. My "remote boot kit" contains the same image in 4 version: - floppy - CD - HD - DOS .COM executable I'll publicly relase it on thinstation.sf.net website after Etherboot 5.4.0 production release, but even if built with the 5.3.12 developemnt version of Etherboot, it seems pretty usable and useful. At the moment, who is interested can send me a mail (please DON'T write in the mailing list), I'll send the package to him by m...

Migrate BACK to WINDOWS -> Talk me out of it QUICK
...little history: We currently have 10 locations connected via a dedicated 1/2 T-1. Last year I migrated from a WINNT domain to a Samba/LDAP domain. It has been running great. Basically did this for license reasons as well as reduced administrative horror. NOW: We have just started to roll out Thinstation thin-clients that are connecting to Win TSRV servers. What is being planned is 1 Terminal Server per location. This will significantly reduce the adminstrative nightmare on multiple Windows boxes and centralize it. However, this is where I start to feel that I am having too many servers per loc...

Passing one more file after initrd to the kernel...
Hi! I have a particular need... I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but surely here there are people that can say me if it is feasible or not... I'm working for a thin-client distribution (thinstation.sf.net); I want to boot it from various media (netowork, cdrom, hd, usb key...), and at the moment syslinux/isolinux/pxelinux are doing it very well... The problem is that the distribution is composed by a kernel, an initrd and a CONFIGURATION TEXT FILE, some kb-long, that should be read by the sy...

Thin client system for X applications?
We're looking for what, years ago, I'd describe a s a X terminal -- something small, simple (and ideally cheap) that a user could display X applications on. I guess they're now called thin clients, but they now seem geared as seats on the web, and for this application we would need to be able display the results of running a homebrewed X application from a CentOS system, either

SIP Softphone on Thinclient?
Is anyone doing this or has anyone tried? The thin clients are running WindowsCE, a browser, and 300mhz. They are Wyse units. I wonder if anyone has any practical advise or can recommend the best phone or method to load a stable softphone on one of these boxes? Thanks, Steve Totaro

Re: SYSLINUX Digest, Vol 33, menu.c32 chaining
Hello, many of our platforms do not have a integrated floppy, some even don''t have a floppy controller. As pxelinux still has a problem with machines without a floppy in combination with some bios versions I need to chainload a different bootstrap loader which works on the floppyless platforms. But I also need to load a BartPE and the other BS loader does not support that. So I tried to

WinXP Xen guest: compare VNC vs RDP
I'm experimenting with using WinXP Xen guests as an alternative to upgrading workstations. The administrative advantages seem overwhelming. Please share thoughts about using VNC vs RDP for remote desktop connections. Please share any anecdotal information regarding user reactions and/or implementation issues.

Gnome's profiles tool?
Hi all, I'm looking for a tool to create and manage the users' profiles in GNOME desktop environment. I've searched Pessulus (included in GNOME admin tools by default according GNOME docs) whitout success. I've tried to compile Sabayon (the CentOS rpm is not avaiable I think) but there are a lot of dependencies to resolve. ?Any ideas? Thanks in advance. -- Jordi Espasa

PXE-based installations to local disk
...a canned solution for this problem, but after some searching I can't find it. I currently run some stations booted over the network using pretty standard PXELINUX, boot kernel & initrd (squashed) images. The PXE-bootable images are thin client Linux (PXES, but could be anything like LTSP, ThinStation etc). However I will be installing some more at the end of DSL links, and don't want to do every boot from the network. Rather, I'd like the network option to remain for initial installation or in case the hard disk installation becomes corrupted. So, the boot order is HD0 then PXE. If...

OT: General Help in chroot build environment
I am trying to compile a module for a Realtek 8168 for thinstation. I have pulled the developer tarball and executed the script to enter its build environment. I also have the source for the module I want to compile, but when I execute #make clean modules it errors out. Reading the errors, I can see it tried to look for the kernel source of the systems actual runn...
