Samba + Active Directory
Hi,
I?m having much trouble on configuring Samba to work on an Active
Directory
environment.
Using getent password I?m able to see AD?s users. wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g
also work fine.
When someone from a Windows try to access my Samba server, the smd
password
window is shown (I think that the autehntication would be transparent,
wouldn't it ?), any password I provide is rejected: I tried AD

Book Gap(s)?
As a long-time author of computer books, fairly experienced MVC/OO
thinker/coder, and recent Rails convert, it is probably not
surprising that my midnight ruminations occasionally lead me to
wonder if a Rails book might not be an interesting undertaking. But I
know there are some great titles out there already and undoubtedly
dozens more in the works.

rsync on Interix WSU 3.5
I'm need to run a rsync server on a Quad 2.8Ghz , 1Gb RAM, 1Terabyte of
disk.. Dell 725N - it's a storage, NAS type box running W2K, RAID 5
etc.. A real beast.. :-)
The Unix guys want to backup their boxes to this beast using rsync
clients.
It would seem that Windows Services for Unix (WSU) is the key.. Current
version gives me a fully compliant POSIX environment, not reliant on

why is zpool import still hanging in opensolaris 2009.06 ??? no fix yet ???
Follow-up : happy end ...
It took quite some thinkering but... i have my data back...
I ended up starting without the troublesome zfs storage array, de-installed the iscsitartget software and re-installed it...just to have solaris boot without complaining about missing modules...
That left me with a system that would boot as long as the storage was...

...tion to only do fun math problems, i.e. the person
needs to make products and
the compiler team needs to help out other teams at times with compiler
related issues; but in general it would be a very interesting job.
We are a small team and it's a good place for a strong, independent,

If you know of anybody, please have them send me a resume.

...sage of the soundcard.
anyway, if /dev/dsp is not present, muse runs anyway.
ince the recent 0.9 version has been released, muse can also mix
different tracks from commandline.
'man muse' gives you extensive informations about available commandline
switches and options.
there is ongoing thinkering about scheduling and remote controlling,
which will be in hopefully soon, especially if the project gets some new
support for developers.

Off-topic - FORM/SORM
Greetings:
FORM/SORM (First/Second Order Reliability Methods) are very popular among some structural engineers but almost never discussed among statisticians. I am quite predudiced as to the reasons for this, but would enquire among the world's statistical thinkers for their perspectives on these methods. Any comments, pro or con, would be greatly appreciated.
Since this is off-topic, you may wish to reply directly to me and I will summarize the comments to the group.
Thank you.

tls library message won''t go away
Hello,
I''m trying to upgrade to using the "boxed" xen supported on FC4
after having it working fine for a while on a manual installation
on FC3.
I upgraded the host operating system with the FC4 cdroms, and
it went mostly fine (after I turned off SElinux...)
Now, when I try to boot one of the provided xen kernels, namely:
vmlinuz-2.6.12-1.1447_FC4xen0
I always get the warning

character string to name
Hi folks,
I thought I recalled a request for turning a character string into an
object name as in:
x$as.name("y")<-1:4
OR
x<-data.frame(as.name("y")=1:4)
However, as.name and a few other uninformed attempts didn't even come
close. A search of "character to name" produced no helpful functions.
This isn't a very urgent request, but if anyone knows
