Virtual extension as local modem
...or this purpose ( I don't even think that you gen get a decent data connection speed). The ideal thing will be to emulate a real modem through the serial port (make the linux box to act as a serial modem for another computer). Then you can define another computer as a fax/data(RAS) box. Do you thik this is something feasable? Any comments are wellcome. Thanks, Dan

Big network, small devices
...e hundreds of nodes, and devices will most probably not be very powerful (Alix or Commell-like or even less). To make the overlay network topology resemble the real one as much as possible, all nodes would ConnectTo all other nodes. Has anyone worked with a Tinc setup similar to this one? Do you thik Tinc would scale up to a network with so many connections so as to still be runnable in so low-powered hardware? Any experiences you can share are greatly appreciated. From stuf like "unable to log transacion" to "the file you are trying to access is corrupted" but if I test the files they all are ok.. qqnorm in R-0.63.3
Dear List, invoking qqnorm-plots in Version 63.3 produces funny things: using the option `type="s"´ on qqnorm should give a nice *line* of observed quantiles. Now, the line is walking along in order to the points index instead from lowest to highest, wich makes funny slopes. try x <- table(rnorm(1000) # or similar and qqnorm(x,type="s") # in 0.63.2 and 63.3 Well, the

Mouse cursor problems in Windows DomU after installing ATI-driver fglrx to X11
...the mouse (only the cursor visualization, if even something)... Can anyone help me with this issue? Sure, I can also live with the old driver, but then everything on the desktop is a little bit deformed, because the 1280 points are spread to 1650, so everything is deformed... And I thik generally there should be "no reason" why the Dom0 graphic driver should influence the mouse movements in DomU Ay help or advice would be appreciated. RFC: Add atomic versions of the llvm.memcpy, llvm.memmove and llvm.memset intrinsics
...ic behaviour by adding additional argument to the existing intrinsics. However by doing so we will need to teach all relevant optimizations and every backend on how to respect this new argument. This would not only be considerable amount of work but it will also be quite error prone. What do folks thik? Does this design makes sense? Would it be usefull for anyone else developing for languages with similar to Java constraints? — Igor

a generic 'attach'?
Is there any reason why 'attach' is not generic in R? I notice that it is in another system, for example, and I can see some applications if it were so in R. Bill Venables. Bill Venables, CMIS, CSIRO Laboratories, PO Box 120, Cleveland, Qld. 4163 AUSTRALIA

gplot problems with faceting
Dear R-Listers, I am very confused with what seems to be a misuse of the faceting options with gplot function and I hope you might help me on this. z contains various simulation results from simulations with different set of parameters. I melt my data to have the following data.frame structure : > str(z) 'data.frame': 12383 obs. of 5 variables: $ vID : num 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

winbind: wbinfo -g sees "domain users", getent group does not
I have configured winbind on a Linux file server, connecting to a Samba PDC. When I run wbinfo -g, I can see the group "domain users". On the other hand, when I run getent group, I do not see this group. Apart from a few other groups, all groups are visibile in both wbinfo -g and getent group. When running for the first time wbinfo -u, getent passwd and wbinfo -g, I got the results

OCFS Database too slow
Hi All, we are using Red Hat 2.1 Kernel e38 along with MSA 1000. ocfs version being used is $ rpm -qa | grep ocfs ocfs-tools-1.0.10-1 ocfs-2.4.9-e-enterprise-1.0.12-1 ocfs-support-1.0.10-1 Database Version is 9.2.0.5 However we find that the performance of the database on OCFS is too slow. even a select count(1) from all_tables takes like a while to complete. We initially assumed RAC is
