Thief 2 crashes after a few minutes
Hello everyone. Long time wine user, first time poster.
I've been trying to get Thief 2 to work. It installed without a hitch, and by all accounts runs perfectly, but after about 3 or 4 minutes of game play, it freezes up on me and I have to kill the process.
No amount of googling or studying the appdb entry has been able to help me. It would be much appreciated if someone could give me

Thief Deadly Shadows
I managed to install TDS running in windowed mode but experiencing two issues.
1. I have no ingame sound (intro sounds work though)
2. The mouse leaves the gaming window when I move to the mouse to far left or right. How can I lock the mouse to the screen?

WINE and older games
I know that there is always the push for the latest and greatest games to be working under WINE, but it's always been a little irritating to me, that as the owner of systems that tend to not be up to par to playing the latest and greatest, that older DirectX 7 and below games really don't feel like they've been giving the TLC that they may deserve.
I've been an ongoing quest for

Game install, Microsoft DirectX (tm) limitation.
I have recently been trying to install a game made for Windows 95 titled Thief: The Dark Project. Unfortunately it seems to be having a problem with some sort of DirectX limitation. I am extremely inexperienced in dealing with wine so please if there is any more information I can give you, feel free to ask.
Upon activation on the install executable (wine setup.exe) the install process appears to

AFAICS, this is not the problem.

Yes. SHA256-CRYPT is good too. It was just recommendation over using
CRAM-MD5, use anything with salt.

The use of salt, today, is to prevent the attacker from directly seeing
who has same passwords. Of course it also will make a rainbow table
attack less useful, but then again, no one uses rainbow tables anymore
since it takes about few minutes to brute force a password in the cloud
or on your home computer GPU. SHA512-CRYPT uses by default 4000 rounds
on dovecot, to make it more computationally

Impossible to IPfilter this?
Hi!
I'm trying to increase security on my FreeBSD 4.8 firewall/DSL router/VPN
router.
My problem is with firewalling the VPN part. I'm using a tunnel to a
RedHat 7.1 box running FreeS/WAN. This tunnel allows traffic from my
internal net (172.17.0.0/24) to that box only:
spdadd 172.17.0.0/24 $REDHAT/32 any -P out ipsec esp/tunnel/$MYADDR-$REDHAT/unique;
spdadd $REDHAT/32 172.17.0.0/24

What's the current state of hardware support for Ogg Vorbis? Any decent
players out there? I have an iRiver iHP-120 and am thinking about upgrading,
any recommendations?

Vulnerability with compromised geli credentials?
I'm not really a developer, but was considering if there is a key
vulnerability in geli given that when you change a key there isn't a disk
update.
Consider the scenario where a new file system is created and populated
with some files. At a later time the original key is changed because
someone has gained access to the key and passphrase. A new key is
generated and attached, but none of

IRC spam
Hey folks,
Those of us who are still connected to the IRC channel surely have
noticed spam accounts posting random (machine generated?) garbage.
Moderators ban the nicks, but obviously, random ones come back.
Keeping on banning won't work. At Linaro, the somewhat controversial
move of requiring only registered users to join worked as a deterrent,
but the annoyance of registering may make

Aki,
if I understand it well, salt is useful when database is/was stolen ?
Then thief can use eg. rainbow tables to decrypt passwords.
