R-Forge
Hello Gregor, Yes, R-Forge.R-project.org will be the official forge for the R Community. But we have to fix a few things before we are going public. If you like you can participate and help us testing. If you have a package or a devel version of your package you're welcome to use SVN provided by R-Forge. For further questions please contact me or R-Forge at R-project.org. Regards,

constrained optimization
Dear list, The task view on optimization does not reference a package for non linear constrained optimization problems. Stefan Theussl told me to look at the Rsolnp package, but unfortunately it is not very clear what method is R ported. (The authors ported the matlab code of Yinyu Ye http://www.stanford.edu/~yyye/ <http://www.stanford.edu/%7Eyyye/>) Currently I'm looking for an implementation of sequential quadratic pr...

Interface for package supplied random number generator
...SuppDists_1.0-13.tar.gz what makes the situation even more complicated is the fact that some of these packages are loaded automaticall by other packages. For example, package 'rlecuyer' is loaded by snow_0.2-1.tar.gz snowFT_0.0-1.tar.gz varSelRF_0.6-2.tar.gz To solve this problem, Stefan Theussl and I have tried to extend the mechanism for random number generators in the following way: - we have added a new kind of generators: "package-supplied" - this generator kind needs functions named 'package_unif_rand', 'package_unif_init', 'package_unif_nseed',...

Ubuntu binaries on CRAN
...aunchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/rrutter. There are some additional packages available, such as JAGS and coda. More packages will hopefully be made available in the future at the PPA. Thanks to Vincent Goulet for helping me transfer the building process from his servers to mine, as well as Stefan Theussl for getting things synced up to CRAN. Thanks to Dirk for updating some of the Debian packages, thus forcing me to get the system back on line. If there are any issues, please let me know. Michael -- Dr. Michael A. R-forge getting the wrong package
After accusing someone of typing 'install.packages("weather")' instead of 'install.packages("webmaps")', I discovered that R-forge really is currently returning the wrong source tarball for packages after 'Repitools' in the alphabet. The data returned from available.package in install.packages goes out of sync at 'Repitools': RemoteREngine

Does the R "statistical language includes, > modules/packages to carry out nonlinear optimization similar to the, > SAS NLIN and NLP procedures?
There is also the OptimizeR project on R-forge http://r-forge.r-project.org/R/?group_id=395. Other related projects are there also, but I'll let their authors speak for themselves. Stefan Theussl did a good job in the Task View, but it is from last June, and it would be a monumental effort to keep up to date with all the work going on. We're "almost" ready to put some of our updated functions on CRAN, mainly for smooth functions with at most box constraints. Within that ca...

Restricting optimisation algorithm's parameter space
...r bounds, on parameter inputs to optimization. There is quite a lot of activity going on right now with optimization in R. With Ravi Varadhan, Kate Mullen and Paul Gilbert, I've been putting some codes on R-forge in the OptimizeR project. Doug Bates has done some important kibbitzing. Stefan Theussl and others have the R Optimization Infrastructure. There are some differences of focus in these projects. For the present poster, I cannot unfortunately help much on GNLM details, but I can say that there are trial versions of methods that will handle bounds (packages minqa, Rcgmin and Rvmmin)...

R-Forge SVN repositories: R CMD build/check error on Windows machines
Dear R-devel, One of our R-Forge developers pointed out that it is not possible to build packages under Windows using the R-Forge repository structure: a package resides in ./pkg - not in a directory with the same name as the package name. Under Linux 'R CMD build pkg' or 'R CMD check pkg' work pretty well (I think Kurt Hornik fixed that in R 2.5.1 or so) whereas under

CRAN Server download statistics (Was: R Usage Statistics)
Hi All, It seems that the question of how may people use (or download) R, and it's packages is one that comes up on a fairly regular basis in a variety of forums (There was also recent thread on the subject on Stack Overflow). A couple of students at UCLA (including myself), wanted to address the issue, so we set up a system to get and parse the cran.stat.ucla.edu APACHE logs every night, and
