New package: CHNOSZ
Dear R users,
A new package, CHNOSZ (version 0.8), is available on CRAN.
CHNOSZ is a package for thermodynamic calculations and analysis.
Functions are available for calculating the standard Gibbs energies and
other thermodynamic properties, and chemical affinities, of reactions
between species contained in the thermodynamic database. The database

Does anyone knows how could I overcome this problem?
Thank you very much for your attention.

Attempting new app - EES (Engineering Equation Solver)
I've uninstalled windows and this seems to be the
final hurdle as there doesn't seem to be a comparable
linux app (thermodynamics equation solver). I
absolutely need this program for my engineering
classes. Wine looks great, and the gui winetools is
pretty neat too. While running the program i get:
X Error of failed request: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap
or Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 70

Repeated measures in Classification and Regresssion Trees
Dear R members,
I have been trying to find out whether one can use multivariate
regression trees (for example mvpart) to analyze repeated measures data.
As a non-parametric technique, CART is insensitive to most of the
assumptions of parametric regression, but repeated measures data raises
the issue of the independence of several data points measured on the
same subject, or from the same plot

Is this the normal and correct behavior for R, or am I missing something? And
if it is normal and correct, what do I need to do to get the behavior I am
expecting.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Calculating Pseudo R-squared from nlme
I am fitting individual growth models using nlme (multilevel models with
repeated measurements nested within the individual), and I am trying to
calculate the Pseudo R-squared for the models (an overall summary of the
total outcome variability explained). Singer and Willett (2003) recommend
calculating Pseudo R-squared in multilevel modeling by squaring the sample
correlation between observed and

It is not unusual for a well-designed experiment to analyze itself.
Correlation may have nothing to do with causation: beware the lurking
variables(s)!
The idea of a process in a perfect state of control contravenes the
second law of thermodynamics: thus a state of control is an
unrealizable and must be regarded as a purely theoretical concept.
The design of experiments was invented by R.A. Fisher to make it
possible to conduct valid experiments in an environment (agricultural
trials) that was never in a state of control.

Difference between ZFS and UFS with one LUN from a SAN
All,
I understand that ZFS gives you more error correction when using two LUNS from a SAN. But, does it provide you with less features than UFS does on one LUN from a SAN (i.e is it less stable).
Thanks,
Shawn

Physical Units in Calculations
Back in 2005 I had been doing most of my work in Mathcad for over 10 years.
For a number of reasons I decided to switch over to R. After much effort and
help from you folks I am finally "thinking" in R rather than thinking in
Mathcad and trying to translating to R. Anyway, the only task I still use
Mathcad for is calculations that involve physical quantities and units. For
example, in

Highlighting a few bars in a barplot
Hello,
I have a bar plot where I am already using colour to distinguish one set
of samples from another. I would also like to highlight a few of these
bars as ones that should be looked at in detail. I was thinking of
using hatching, but I can't work out how or if you can have a background
colour and hatching which is different between bars. Any suggestions on
how I should do this?
Thanks
