Windows 8.1 Join Domain
...new machines are unable to join. I suspect
that this may be related to my add machine script, but that script works
so far as creating the record, but still no welcome into the domain.
What is the current wisdom for making this happen each and every time
for all my machines?
Thanks,

some cannot join domain
...machine that did join the domain has a name of 8 characters, so I
am not sure that this is relevant.
Any ideas as to where I can look to begin to track this down? I can
manually create the machine accounts, but am leary of doing so due to the
requirement of having unique SIDs.

from chapter 17 of the Samba-3 HOW-TO, but so far little joy except that of
knowing I am not dealing with M$AD.
I will try the above with a native Unix user and see how that goes. Any
advice on doing this with an LPAP user would be appreciated.

password server vs. passdb
...and authentication should my main LDAP server/PDC go offline.
Otherwise, the file server should reference the main server for both
domain control and authentication.
I guess the question boils down to: What should I have password server,
passdb backend, and security set to?
Thanks,

This is maddening, as it is standing in the way of my migration from TAS to
Samba+LDAP.
I am pathetically in need of assistance, any suggestions would be appreciated.

disconnect this user? i mean, the client
can disconnect the user which with had logged in before?

Hello guys,
I have got my samba server as PDC run and it worked well. I could see the machine in a windows explorer and the linux/samba users could login into the windows.
Now, suddenly, I can't see samba server in windows explorer any more, but linux users can still log into the windows machines. I can ping from the samba server and it works. When I run
#smbclient -L localhost
I get the

SMB service not starting automatically
The smb service is not starting automatically. I can type service smb start
at the prompt and it loads, and I can then connect, but its not loading
automatically as it used to. Can someone point me in the right direction as
what file I need to change to make it load at startup. Thanks!

PLEASE HELP! Can't add machines to domain!
I have spent days now trying to debug why I can not add machines to the
domain. I am using samba 3.0.23c with an openldap backend. I can
authenticate fine using smbclient with the administrator account but
when I go to add a machine it fails. I have checked the debug logs and
know what is happening, I am just not sure why or how to fix it. I am
using the idealx scripts to add machines.

Joining XP clients to a Samba PDC
Greetings,
I've been pulling my hair out on this problem for several days and I'm
not really any closer to a solution. I hope someone out there can help
me.
I'm trying to set up a samba PDC on a Fedora Core 2 box using an LDAP
backend (on another server). The base install of everything is working
fine. At the unix level LDAP connectivity is configured and working
properly for
