Lag on network using Samba
I am using Samba for a file server and get a lag when accessing files across the network, I assume it is due to inactivity, because the first file I access takes the longest to access, and then other files I access immediatly after are much faster. If I do not access any files for a while I get the problem again. It all works well, but I would really like to get rid of this Lag when opening a

Unusual behaviour
Hi, I've just noticed something strange in dovecot 0.99.10.5. I created some IMAP folders from the command line (mkdir .INBOX.Folder1) as a different user to the owner of the mailbox. Obviously when I tried to view them via IMAP I got an error message, but the message to the client was "internal error[date time]" where date and time appeared to be the current date and time. Is

"Virtual" routing
Hello. Is it possible to create different routing policies for "virtual" (as opposed to a real NIC) interfaces? I mean: be able to set up different rules for each of the "dummy0", "dummy1" interfaces, and/or aliases to the "lo" interface like "lo:0", "lo:1", etc. [For example, I assigned a zone (called "priv") to a subnet

Little problem with dovecot using mbox format
Hi everyone, this is my first post on this mailing list. I recently installed postfix+dovecot+fetchmail on OpenBSD for my dad's office. (dovecot is setup as an imap server using mbox). Everything worked flawlessly...until now. I don't know why, but now some emails seem to de-double themselves. For exemple, yesterday morning I printed out all the emails. To my surprise 30

Question: email system architecture
Hi, I have a question about how to implement a mail system, but I don't know where to ask. Until now, I have a mail system who receive mail by postfix and transport it through procmail to the /var/spool/mail/username mailbox. From here it is retrieved through dovecot (POP3). Now I have two more users, I want to implement a IMAP server, and also provide a webmail (squirrelmail)

Dovecot response to "FETCH" command
Hi folks. I just converted my site from UW+mbox to dovecot+maildir (stable-test59, 2005/02/25). For the most part, everything is great. The server seems faster and less memory intense than the UW server (this part has made me very happy). And it's definitely more user friendly to me than Courier. There is one thing however... A few of my users are using the web based mail reader

Samba config
Hi I?m having difficulty configuring Samba running on FreeBSD. Samba version is 2.2.8a. The scenario is that we have an NT4 domain and I am looking to migrate the printers onto Samba. All of the printers are connected via print servers, mainly HP JetDirect. As far as security is concerned I am happy for guest/anonymous logon as the server will only be used for printing but I have set security to

I quit.
It is with regret that I announce that Shorewall development and support is officially ended. Sean''s post has finally driven it home to me that in the long term, trying to support a project like Shorewall is impossible for a person of my personality and age. Sean -- please believe that this isn''t about you or your post -- your post was just the proverbial straw on this old
