Authenticate users through an AD trust
I've recently connected a Samba server to our domain
(ourdomain.dom) and configured it to send
authentication requests to AD. I can successfully
authenticate ourdomain.com users from the Samba
server.
ourdomain.com has a trust with a sister company
(theirdomain.com). With this trust we can assign NTFS
permissions to users within theirdomain.com to, for
example, file servers on ourdomain.com. We also have
numerous groups on ourdomain.com that include many
users from theirdomain.com.
The Samba server does not have access (due to a
firewall on theirdomain....

ADS and RPC
I have a problem that recently appeared with ADS authentication.
I have a samba server that is an AD member on our domain, ourdomain.edu.
We are under a domain that is an empty root, call it 'theirdomain.net'.
Also under this root is another domain, call it 'theirdomain.edu. I
have found that RPC access has been disabled on the DC's in
theirdomain.edu and my samba server can no longer authenticate users on
theirdomain.edu. Is there some workaround for this?

Google Voice / Jabber auth problem
asterisk-1.8.13.0
iksemel-1.4
I have a client who setup a gvoice account using their domain in the
login name:
username=client at theirdomain@gmail.com
This appears to have caused a problem with authentication. I've tried
escaping the @ and quoting the login string, etc. but it simply won't
authenticate. I don't believe my configuration is bad as the same server
/ configuration will authenticate using a login that is of s...

using posfix on the local LAN, with internet FQDN
...n + usermin installed and has a
basic webmail interface for when they're out of the office) it sends
mail using the local machine name, instead of the domain name.
for example, mail comes from esther at ser001.rewards.local.
How do I tell Postfix to automaticlly send mail from
<user>@<theirdomain.com> instead?
Sorry for asking this, but I don't know Postfix very well and don't
know what to call to, to search on google.

Winbind with one-way trusts?
...works very well for most of the domains with which we have trusts.
But for one domain, 'groups DOMAIN\user' returns only gid 0, and I see
kerberos errors in winbind logs:

LDA and POP3/IMAP user_query
...f the time, and the remaining 1% fails. The 1% that fails
sees the mail being delivered to the wrong mbox. In this particular case the
same client owned both mboxes so it was ok, but if this had not been the case
things could have gotten real embarrassing.
Think of the following:
abcwidgets at theirdomain.tld mailuser1
mailuser1 at adomain.tld mailuser2
Now when using the Postfix LDA, email for each address is properly delivered
to the specified mbox, however in this case because their is a matching name
for the mbox and the email address lefthand content, the compound SQL query
returns both r...
