Wrong size on a domU partition
Hi. I need more space on my domU server, so i create a file image to attach it to the domU. But when i load that image in the domU, show a size very different to the create. I create the file with this command dd if=/dev/zero of=/xen/domains/SRV03/opt-disk.img bs=1024k seek=30720 count=30720 (The idea is create an image disk with 30GB, but when i check the disk on the domU show 64GB.)

xenballooning
As I understand concept of xenballooning, it allow to take memory from guest and return it to hypervisor. This allow to reduce amount of memory allocated to VM in realtime without rebooting VM. But how we can add more memory to guest VM in realtime, than was at boot time? Can we somehow make balloon inflated at start time? (F.e. VM starts with memory = 512Mb and balloon inflating to +512Mb).

OT: Staging startups for dependent machines
It''s a bit OT for this list, but I''m sure people here will have dealt with it. Does anyone have any suggestions for simple methods of staging machine (Linux in my case) startups when there are interdependencies ? Eg, most of my servers rely on the DNS, so it would be nice if they could wait till the DNS is running before starting - otherwise I end up having to log in and

New Install Plan Help - NIC Requirements
I would like to understand what may be needed/useful for the system NIC. My plan is to use an Asus mb, Sabertooth or Crosshair.  They both have a single on-board Ethernet port.  I am wondering about the possibility/need to have a 2-port plug-in NIC.  A scenario is to have a domU Windows or Linux SVN/Apache/PostgreSQL VM and interact with it through another domU Windows or Linus VM.  I also may

1 host, 1 nick, 1 regular bridge, 1 local bridge, 5 vm
So Working on CEntOS 5 I am trying to sett up Xen with 2 bridges, one that connects dom0 and most of the domU to the physical card and the out to the network. Got that figured out no problem, now i want to have a second bridge that runs a local network for all the doms that doesn''t connect to the network. With code I have found used in multiple places I can easily get 2 bridges, and

Shorewall and SIP phones
Hello,   Are there general guidelines around on how to configure Shorewall for use with SIP phones ?  Especially regarding (some?) Cisco SIP phones which are expecting a reply at port 5060 while sending from an arbitrary high port. RAM disapeared?
Hello, I have some dom0 which have 8GB RAM, but when I look with xm list, it just shows me 6GB, I need to setup some new VM, each with 1GB, so I should have with 3VM still 5GB free, but im only seeing 3GB. Can I just create 2 new VM with each 1GB and still have 3GB for the dom0? #xm top xentop - 11:31:17 Xen 3.1.0-53.1.14.el5 4 domains: 1 running, 3 blocked, 0 paused, 0 crashed, 0 dying, 0

Options for a "I'm done" flag file
...as the touch only happens if rsync exits with a code of 0. If you need to consider other non zero exit code, it is still doable, just a bit more shell code. There are surely other options as well, but this is probably the most simple. Sync files-from with delete
I have a local directory that I am trying to sync with a remote directory. That's fine, but there's a lot of data that is out of sync so I decided to make a local copy of the difference to then bring to the remote location. So I ran a dry-run between the two to generate a list of files in listOfFiles.txt Then I ran rsync from local to localBackup. rsync -av

Doubt on XEN memory management: please clarify
Hello, this is a question I wanted to ask you since a long time because there is something not too much clear to me, as regard the memory management in XEN. I don''t want to go too much in deep with such argument, but It''s just to understand what is the best setup for my environment. I know about memory ballooning (http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenBestPractices) and the

How do I resize a Physical Partition in a Dom U that''s "on" a Logical Volume in the Dom 0?
Hey all, I''m trying to figure out how to re-size physical partitions in the Dom U. I''ve read up what I can find on line and finally decided to have Logical Volumes in the Dom 0 and pass them as physical volumes for use in the Dom U. Here''s an example of what I''m doing. To start in the Dom 0 I created the LV''s with lvcreate -n guest_boot -L 100M

rsyncing from a compressed tarball.
Mike, As it stands right now, we use xz for our compression, so if rsync had a similar option for xz that would probably be an improvement. However, I think being able to decompress directly to the remote system would save more; elsewise I don't see how I'm going to be able to avoid untarring and uncompressing the whole xz file on the other end. thanks much, ed On Tue, Dec 6, 2016 at
