One of the main reasons we haven't done a 2.0 release yet is that
autoconf/automake need work - they don't install things properly. You'll have
to manually install the status.xsl file and configure webroot to point at the
directory it is installed in.

CVS changes
To all CVS users of ices 0.x:
I've just merged the ices-libshout_2 branch onto HEAD. Anyone using that branch
should switch back to HEAD to continue to get the latest updates.
This also means you now need the latest version of libshout2 from CVS in order
to build ices from CVS.

Unofficial Icecast HOWTO posted
It should. I just tried it out my own instructions after letting them go
a few days. I didn't want them fresh in my mind. I simply copied the
configs and played dumb (not too hard). I then started up my playlist
server and am listening to it right now. I tested out the streaming
stuff a few days ago with good results.
Hope it works out as well for you all. Find anything wrong, let me know

music ( which will change depending on the time ) . you don't want to have
actual radio shows w/ song intro's , etc . .
this you can certainly do . instead of having icecast generate the .m3u
file , you could do this through php . for instance ,, if you listen to a
stream on http://theDV8network.com , you'll notice a counter index and the
source ip in the .m3u - basically ;i'm tracking this info in sql , and
then generating a custom playlist file in the icecast webro0t dir . i then
have a webpage with a meta http refresher to load the custom m3u file .

and this then also triggers a single stream relayed to the main network .
and this could be further altered to run a transcode session on the main

(check out http://theDV8network.com , tho i don't have live shows up yet .
i got the scripts working in house, next step is to rebuild the studio
machine before we go live again on a regular basis .. )

IceS and Icecast for real time streaming...
Hi all,
I have requirement for one of my college projects - to build
an on-demand streaming music web site. Users will be able to upload songs
to the server and other members of the site will be able to listen and
rate them on their quality etc.
Here is a little background about my development architecture - I am
using a Linux box with Apache as my web server and Icecast (obviously) as my

Setting Up A Master-Slave Relay Problem
Yes, but using the slave pull from master configuration works well. I
simply configure the master to allow connections from the slave and the
slave then pulls all the data it needs off.
I have this working well on two productions icecast2 machines down in S.
California. The master sits in the main radio station headquarters while
the server (to which everyone connects) sits up in San Jose. It

streaming ogg and mp3 on the same machine
I have been able to successfully stream ogg vorbis as both a playlist
and as a live stream off my icecast2 server here using port 8000. Works
great.
I can also stream MP3 live audio using darkice and icecast2 off the same
box using port 8001.
But I have been unable to create a situation where I can stream *both"
ogg and mp3 off the same machine. I have even created a new icecast
directory to

suggestion: add mp3 support to ices2
It says here there hasn't been much interest in handling mp3 with ices2:
http://www.icecast.org/files/ices_docs/faq.html
I just wanted to mention that I'm interested in doing so. I use ices
for a web-based jukebox project called Tunez. I have tried the other
suggested icecast streamers and have had major problems with both of
them (muse and liveice). It would be really cool if the
