inode limit ?
Hello, I'm using a defualt everything install of 7.2 (kernel 2.4.7-10 #1) with a 27 gig ext3 / partition. The problem that I am experiencing is this: If I create more than (about) 3.5 million distinct files on the partition, touch, mkdir, cp and all other file creation methods complain that there is no available space on the disk. A df shows me that the partition is only 65% full.

R and DBSCAN
Hello everyone, When looking for information about clustering of spatial data in R I was directed towards DBSCAN. I've read some docs about it and theb new questions have arisen. DBSCAN requires some parameters, one of them is "distance". As my data are three dimensional, longitude, latitude and temperature, which "distance" should I use? which dimension is related to that distance? I suposse it should be temperature. How...

Is it safe to run "tune2fs -j" on a mounted filesystem?
...then to enable it, runs this? mount -t ext2 -o remount,rw / I assume it is not safe to do so, but one user in my LUG assumes otherwise. Just curious, as I never like to assume. -- Bryan J. Simple Sudoku - not minimising/letting me do anything else
I have installed Simple Sudoku (http://www.angusj.com/sudoku/index.php) but I cannot minimise it, nor go to another screen to do something else. If I try, its window gets larger, vertically. I am using wine 20050725 (which is what is packaged for my system at present), on a Debian system running XFree86, with icewm-gnome. Can anyone advise why this program "hogs attention"? -- Phil

VPN?
Once you have Samba shares up and running on the internal network, how do you go about making them available (browsable) via the Internet--a VPN? I hate to say it but in Windows 2k it's just a matter of a few clicks on the server and client. I'm hoping that it's not much harder with a Linux server/Windows client. Anything involving something like SSH will be too hard for most users.

Asterisk and Panasonic KX-TD1232
Hello We have around 50 phones in our company, and I am playing with the thought to gradually go over to using sip services and ip-phones internally. However at first I would liked the Asterisk just to sit between the phone line and the Panaosnic, so I can take out one lin/number at a time to use ip phones. I am new to Asterisk, and haven't done much configuring of the PBX either. So I also

Newbie Question: Spatial Autocorrelation with R Tutorial?
Howdy All, I am looking for some good tutorials (books, websites, whatever) for calculating/testing for Spatial Autocorrelation using R. Specifically, I am wanting to test for autocorrelation of a number of variables measured at a set of discrete locations. Up to this point I have been exploring the "spdep" package and I can get "moran.test" to work, but I am concerned that
