text2wave Voices Improvements?
I currently have an AGI that calls the Festival text2wave app to write
a wav file that my dialplan plays into a call with the Background()
command. But the voice sounds terrible: like SAM, the 1980s 6502 voice
synthesizer. I tried to slow it down by calling (text2wav -eval
"(Parameter.set 'Duration_Stretch 1.4)" -scale 2.0 [...]), but it st...

Festival tts
Hi I have installed Festival on the same box as asterisk and followed the
instructions to integrate it with asterisk.
Festival seems to work fine on its own performing text to speech from the
command line or via a file.
Asterisk answers the call but there is no speech. I can see no errors in the
Festival log file
The asterisk console shows

System Application, Fail/Timeout Issue
Does the System() dialplan application have a limit on how long it can run? Either a time limit, or server load limit?
I'm trying to pipe the output of Sphinx2 into Text2Wave, but Asterisk just runs by it to the next extension priority, with no errors.
If I run the same command via the system shell, all is good, though it does take a few seconds, probably about 5 seconds to run. Yes, it's a slowish machine.
Another example is, I have some text being piped out to...

asterisk having problem in playing sounds
...pp in asterisk connects with festval server at each line(as it required festival_server for its functioning and logs can be seen on "festival --server" realtime prints). So, that posibility was also assumed to be creating problems. But then i created sound files (riff, wav and snd) through text2wave and "Playback()" them in asterisk, but the problem was still there.
Asterisk is playing the sound files that come with it very smoothly. But for other ones same 'tick' sound comes at every start.
So, Can anyone help me out in this problem??
Also, is there any way to...

distorted native music on hold
Hello,
Using asterisk-1.2.1 I am trying to convert my music-on-hold files from
.wav to alaw:
% sox moh.wav -r 8000 -c 1 moh.al resample -ql
The file sounds fine when listened with:
% sox mox.al -t ossdsp /dev/dsp
But when listened through asterisk with an alaw SIP phone the sound is
clicky and too fast.
Did I forget something in my conversion command?

WiFi SIP phones
Greetings list,
What are people's experiences with WiFi SIP phones?
When I last looked into them about 18 months ago, they were incredibly expensive, had very limited range and poor battery life. In the end, it worked out much more cost effective to simply use ATAs + DECT cordless phones where there was a requirement for portable devices.
I assume things must have moved on somewhat since

Which sound file formats?
I've got the text files created -- thanks to Russell Bryant -- for
re-building the core and extra sounds using another voice but I'm not
sure which formats to actually build.
This will be a small/personal system using Vitelity.net so will only
have SIP connections.
The /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/ directory contains .alaw, .g722, .g729,
.gsm, .ulaw, and .wav.
