Dynamic DNS and bind_dlz
I'm trying to troubleshoot why our workstations have stopped dynamically registering their ip addresses in our AD using bind_dlz setup. It worked for a couple of months and now does not. I realized I have a basic question about how it is supposed to work. Do the workstations (after getting a dynamic address from the dhcpd server) contact the AD DC directly with the information? Or does dhcpd

after DCs migration to 4.7, two things
Hi Marc, Thanks for your reply! > Check if your dynamic DNS works. For details and troubleshooting, see: > https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Testing_Dynamic_DNS_Updates I'm not sure about the "--all-names" option, but the regular "samba_dnsupdate --verbose" updated all dns records for all DCs shortly after I joined them. The problematic dns records here are workstations, trying to add a dynamic dns record. I took a look with the Micro...

after DCs migration to 4.7, two things
Hi, I migrated our DCs from 4.5/internal dns to 4.7.1/bind9_dlz. Short summary of the steps taken: - added a new temp dc, - removed the old DCs - cleaned sam database - installed new DCs, with their old dns/ip - removed the temp dc again - synced sysvol and all is looking well: no db errors, no replication issues, ldapcmp matches across DCs, etc. So, I took things to production today, and

Internal DNS, update of reverse zone fails
...olved by the internal dns server, verified with nslookup SOMENAME. Unfortunately the win10-static-client did not add an entry to the reverse lookup zone, when I added it to the domain. Is there a reason why ? I guess it should not be like this. I've followed https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Testing_Dynamic_DNS_Updates for testing and samba_dnsupdate --verbose --all-names gives: ############################################# ; TSIG error with server: tsig verify failure Outgoing update query: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: UPDATE, status: NOERROR, id: 0 ;; flags:; ZONE: 0, PREREQ: 0, UPDATE: 0, ADDIT...

Dynamic DNS and bind_dlz
...cpd -> bind -> DC, then can someone show a sample dhcpd.conf > file? The Windows default is that the client tries to register itself in the AD DNS zone. If you haven't disabled the setting on your Windows domain members, it should work. To verify, see: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Testing_Dynamic_DNS_Updates Let me know if you have a different problem that is not described in our troubleshooting section and that is not solvable by: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/BIND9_DLZ_DNS_Back_End#Reconfiguring_the_BIND9_DLZ_Back_End Apart from that, you can configure dhcpd to register the client in the AD DNS...

errors during samba_dnsupdate, another case
Hi, I installed my first Samba 4.12 AD with packages from https://www.sernet.de/ on CentOS 8. Everything seems to work OK, including DNS records being created for members that join the domain. Reading https://wiki.samba.org I came across https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Testing_Dynamic_DNS_Updates. When I execute "samba_dnsupdate --verbose --all-names" on the DC I'm seeing the same errors Daniel Betschart reported on this list on 2020-04-06: [root at dc01 ~]# samba_dnsupdate --all-names --fail-immediately ; TSIG error with server: tsig verify failure [root at dc01 ~]# samba_...
