...release 3 kernel 2.4.21 using Samba 3.0.9-1. Server B is Red Hat 7.3 kernel 2.4.20 with Samba 2.2.7. Clients are variants of Mac OS 10.3, but in our testing the clients were both 10.3.8. The issue can be reproduced consistently by performing the following: User A opens an Excel file titled "testdocument.xls" on the server. User A can work fine, save multiple times, even close the file and reopen it. User A closes the file and quits Excel, but stays logged onto the server. For instance: if I type open testdocument.doc it opens the file with Word or OpenOffice (whatever is associated with the document type .doc).
