SAMBA Groups and Permissions
hi i have a user ~# id test_user uid=500,gid=500 (users),groups (users, kids) as you can see, this user is in primary group "users" and also member of group "kids" if he tries to access /home/board via smb (Samba 3.0 + openldap) from a windows client (XP), he fails, because his sambaPrimaryGroupSID maps t...

Easy one...
Hey everyone. I think I have an easy one here. I am running Samba 3.0.3-5 on a Fedora Core 3 using Winbind to pull account information from a NT4 PDC. Situation: [Test_User] comment = User Share browseable = yes writeable = yes read only = no create mode = 0664 directory mode = 0775 path = /usr/avmax_shares/Test This configuration of the share in the smb.conf file works great. I just figured this out. It used to look like this: [...

Interactive Rsync Authentication Problem
I have run across an interesting issue when running rsync from Solaris to an rsync daemon on Linux. It works properly when I specify the password on the command line: RSYNC_PASSWORD=the_Password rsync -r /tmp/test test_user@test_server::test_user/topdir/subdir However, if I do not specify the password on the command line and am prompted interactively, it always fails. After some investigation I find that Solaris getpass() returns a maximum of PASS_MAX bytes which on our systems is set to 8. The comment in authe...

permission issues between 3.4.0 & 3.0.3?
Hi all!! I'm experimenting a set of problems when trying to connect Samba client to windows. I don't have admin rights on the windows side, so I should trust all my winSA admin is telling me. Windows side (server): In the server Side (win2k3), the SA defined a shared resource. The share-permissions tab the "domain users" group has typical permissions, and in the security

I spent days on this problem. I have dovecot setup to use SSL and IMAP. I also have a pop account that I had no trouble getting working. Both use PAM authentication on Linux. openssl s_client -connect localhost:993 a login test_user test_secure_password The response I got back was: a BAD Invalid characters in atom I changed the password to "abc" and it worked. The secure password used to work but it was a different architecture (x86_64 I think). The current architecture is armhf. It may be different versions of...

Folder Redirection broken if access is from ACL only
I have an issue with W2K/XP using Folder Redirection to a Samba homes share (or any share for that matter). This is only a problem when access for a user is via an ACE (ACL) and not the traditional file system permissions. So for example (user is cath in this example): [root@gandalf users]# ll -d cath drwxrwx---+ 5 root root 4096 Apr 15 20:40 cath [root@gandalf users]# getfacl cath # file: cath

Some test user can access group shares of groups he is not in, or cannot access group shares of groups he is in. The output of the following 2 commands show different group IDs: wbinfo -r 'DOMAIN\test_user' id 'DOMAIN\test_user' The first command shows a total of 30 GIDs, some of which are correct and some are not. The second command shows 14 groups, all of which seem to be correct (except that using version 3.0.23c from the backports, I get a spurious GID which does not have a gr...
