Secondary, tertiary group problems in Samba LDAP
...My system RedHat 8.0 (1) PDC with LDAP 2.1.23 backend master, (3) BDC with LDAP slave backend. All are Samba 3.0. I had a probelem with secondary, tertiary etc groups that people belong to and Samba recognizing these groups if they were stored in LDAP. The primary group was no problem. When I created shares but used "@groupname" for valid users or write list, Samba would fail to get that info from LDAP. They needed to be in /etc/group to wo...

To leave windows behind
...ws and you all are doing a great job towards this end. However, I have two sticking points that I could use some help with. 1. Internet Explorer installed and comes up well. However, I want to use the msn Investment Portfolio which has a set of secondary menus down the side and each of these have tertiary menus which I want to access. These tertiary menus are not available under wine, i.e clicking on the secondary menu does not bring up the tertiary menu. 2. I want to use Fidelity's Active Trader. The install aborts with the following error. Backtrace: =>1 0x00ece08d in ntdll (+0x1e08d) (0x...

Non linear regression using Levenberg-Marquardt method
Hello, I want to fit some non linear models with the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. It doesn''t seem to exist any function to do this in R ( well, maybe one does, but I''m a new user, and the only documentation I have is "An introduction to R"). I''d like to know if this function exists, maybe throught an additionnal package. I''d also like to know if if

DUNDi Docs
Does anyone know where I can find some good DUNDi docs? The ones are dundi.org are absolutely horrible. The examples in dundi.conf are pretty much useless. I still can't figure out why Digium can't write some good documentation. It's their 'baby' after all. This really drives me nuts and pisses people off in general. I've been dicking around with DUNDi for over 6 months and

DNS update system-config-network GUI
...update the DNS settings and restart the network, the DNS changes do not hold. I have tried using this GUI, as a regular user, after giving the root password, and, also, logged in as the root user. When I begin, the Primary DNS is shown as 192.168.1.1 the IP of the ADSL modem. I move that IP to the Tertiary DNS and insert the Primary and Secondary DNS IP's I want to use. Then, I save the file, quit, and restart the network (service network restart). I see messages that the file has been saved and suggesting that I restart the network or the box. The DNS I want to use is that of OpenDNS.com and I...

upgraded maps database for italy?
Dear UseRs, I'm using the library maps. I'm drawing maps of Italy. The map available for this library were prepared around *1989*: "This italy database comes from the NUTS III (Tertiary Administrative Units of the European Community) database of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) GRID-Geneva data sets. These were prepared around *1989*" [cited: help("italy")]. The details of this map is by "province", which is not maybe optimal, but is OK. How...

Recurrent DNS issues after DC loss
...NS Configuration on Domain Controller' https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Samba_DC_to_an_Existing_Active_Directory#DNS_Configuration_on_Domain_Controllers "The following is a best practice for DNS configuration on domain controllers (DC): Set the local IP of a DC as secondary or tertiary|nameserver|entry in its|/etc/resolv.conf|file and use a different Active Directory (AD) DNS server IP from the forest as primary name server" It's saying to point to each other as primary. Which is best practice to avoid a island issue. I don't think it's really an issue with S...

Best Practices: Samba AD with multiple DCs/BIND9 DNS servers
Hello, I have been having trouble locating information regarding how to setup multiple BIND DNS servers in a Samba AD environment. If I'm deploying Samba as an AD controller using BIND as the DNS backend and also deploy secondary and/or tertiary Samba domain controllers, what is the proper approach to configure BIND on the additional DCs? If someone could please point me towards documentation I may have missed or provide some insight on the subject I'd greatly appreciate it. Kind Regards, JS

RFC: Improving license & patent issues in the LLVM community
I really really do not like armchair lawyer discussions and this is just flamebait if I've ever seen it... --------------- #1 Is the submarine patent risk really that bad? (What's driving this) #2 Pragmatically have "you" even considered how to execute on this relicense plan? a. What if one of the copyright holders doesn't agree? b. I''ve reduce the problem to a more simplest approach, without rendering, simply creating a variable of what should do. Here is what I get in the log: Processing ScannsController#status (for 127.0.0.1 at 2009-02-02 14:24:25) [GET] Session ID:

Is Amanda "vaulting" what I need for archiving data?
...to periodically take the data and archive it to tape and then remove it from disk and store the tape in our archival facility. We'd need a record of what is on each tape of course. But this would not be the same scenario as in the link above because it would not be taking data from 2ndary to tertiary storage. It would essentially be taken from primary to tertiary directly. i.e. directly from disk to tape. But not in an automated fashion like typical nightly dumps. On request, we'd take the scientist's data and copy it over to our server that has the tape unit, then dump it out to t...
