compressed audio tutorial - "major" update
I've made a large update to the introduction to compressed audio. I
completely rewrote the first section, which I wasn't happy with. It now
features two diagrams (worth 1000 words each!), and is broken up into a
couple of sections.
http://cs.leander.isd.tenet.edu/~mitchell/vorbis_intro.html
I have also continued to tweak other sections based on feedback from email
and this forum. All the feedback has been very helpful.
If you could all read at least the first two sections (the new ones). Anyone
wanting nitty gritty on the other changes can see the...

Where's the tool to do .ogg bitrate "peeling"?
Hello.
The page http://www.vorbis.com/faq.psp (last faq) and
http://cs.leander.isd.tenet.edu/~mitchell/vorbis_intro.html both state
that it's possible to lower the bitrate of an existant ogg enc file
without reencoding. Where does this feature exists? oggenc only likes wav
files as input, how can I feed it an .ogg file and get a lower bitrate
in a new one?

I've written a new blog post about the subject here:

Puppet Scalability - any good references
...operator''s gut and trial and error figuring how much load is fine,
requiring of them to throttle workloads and hold their breaths when rolling
out changes. Can workload be cancelled in case of excessive loads same as
handling parallel FTP jobs, or this approach is not a design tenet at
present?
I''m assuming the answers in this area are not 0 nor 1''s, so a balanced
discussion of how close are things to 0 or to 1 is of interest.
Thanks,

Export Samba mount using nfs
Hello,
I have an Lacie NAS disk attached to an Gigabit network. Since it only exports samba I mounted on one
of my gigabit Linux boxes with
smbmount //lacie/terabyte /TERABYTE -o defaults,username=genuser,password=genuser
Now I need to export that to all my linux boxes not on the Gigabit network using nfs.
When I try to mount I get:

Anova
Hi all,
I apologize for what might be a silly question.
I am interested in doing a one way anova.
This is not too hard in and of itself, either with anova, aov or oneway.test
.
However, I need to
1) get pvalues,
2) do a posthoc analysis with Tukey HSD,
3) and have (sometimes) an unbalanced design.
I just can't seem to put all the pieces together.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Dan.

Your scripting style is irrelevant so long as it gets the job done for you. And
one tenet the Unix/Linux Philosophy is, "automate everything," which is what you
have done.

Please give it another read, especially those of you with keen eyes. I'd

um...
no.
going way back to "triumph of the nerds",
the number-one example steve jobs used
to symbolize the absence of any esthetics
at microsoft (and thus -- by extension --
inside the head of bill gates) was the fact
they found a monospaced font acceptable.

(OT) Where to post free source for AGI?
Hey all,
After figuring out a problem with AGI and freepascal, I have finished
writing a small Cepstral (http://www.cepstral.com) AGI app. I wrote a
small readme for it at http://www.datatrakpos.com/misc/dial/readme.txt.
I'd like to give it to the community (source/binary) and was wondering
where to post it?
The wiki?
Also, anyone have suggestion on licensing? LGPL? FreeBSD?
Thanks
