self-referencing has_many
...ooking at the has_many and the belongs_to relationship. But, when I try to find all "orphans", records that are neither a parent nor a child, I can not find a query that work in ActiveRecord. This query works in MySQL: SELECT * FROM templates LEFT JOIN templates t2 ON templates.id=t2.template_id WHERE (t2.id IS NULL AND templates.template_id IS NULL) Of course, the table alises through ActiveRecord for a loop when manually entered in the :joins options. Any suggestions? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

What association do I want here, has_ or belongs_to?
...those AlertTemplate objects, plus some data. So, in human speak, I''d think that an Alert has_one AlertTemplate. But I can''t really say that AlertTemplate belongs_to Alert, because each template may be used by many alerts. So AlertTemplate just as an id column, but Alert has a template_id column. In my form for creating an alert I have: collection_select(:alert, :template, (AlertTemplate.find :all), :id, :name) to produce a dropdown for choosing which template you want to associate with the new Alert object. However in my controller''s create method when I do an Alert...

Rails associations: Easy Question requires dumb answer
...cord::Base end which has this migration: /snip t.column :name, :string And the other model: class Product < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :template end with the migration: /snip t.column :qty, :integer, :default => 0 t.column :specialDescription, :string t.column :template_id, :integer Finally here is my controller code: /snip t=Product.create(:specialDescription=>"Cleans shit",:qty=>12) t.template=Template.find(:first) t.save My intention is to have several Products reference one template. But when I execute the above snip, I get this: Unknown co...

Pretty URLs for omega?
...ga is working fine, giving us all omega's default CGI parameters. Now we want multiple databases which could be accessed using http://<host_ID>/cgi-bin/omega?DB=<index_ID> but this is starting to get messy. It will get messier when we start to customise templates with &FMT=<template_ID> (?) and so on. It would be nice if the users had a simple, memorable URL such as http://<host_ID>/search which we could use to generate customised omega CGI URLs. The nearest solution I found was this index.html but it did not display the number of documents in the index as http://<h...

[PATCH 0/5] Introducing virt-builder-repository
Hi all, I wanted to provide an easy way to create or update a virt-builder repository out of a folder of template disk image files. This is what virt-builder-repository aims at. Some of the data are computed from the image file, others are asked the user or extracted from an existing index file. So far, virt-builder-repository doesn't run libguestfs on each image to extract the architecture,

[PATCH v13 0/3] virt-builder-repository
Hey there, Here is an update of the series. The changes: * Incorporate Richard's comments. Left out the with_openfile one since that leads to a double close. * Change the ask option return type to string (removing the option) since if the use doesn't input anything we're using the default, and the default is now a mandatory parameter. * Make sure there are items in the
