ADSI Programming
Hello Everyone, About a month ago, someone put a question to the list about which ADSI spec to purchase from Telcordia. I looked in the archives, and it appears that this question was never answered, so I'll put it to the list in a slightly different manner: Do I need to purchase the Telcordia specs in order to learn how to write my own ADSI scripts? If so, which one? I found the Black Dolphin web site and...

Sort of OT: PBX vs CO
As I am working my way to understand Asterisk, I have a couple of questions that hopefully someone will answer. I know there are differences between a PBX switch and a CO switch. Can Asterisk completely replace and act as a CO switch? Are there any telecoms out there using Asterisk as a CO switch? If so, how well does it work? If not, why not?

Overriding S4 methods in an installed package
Is it possible to override S4 methods in an installed package? The naive library("pkg") setMethod("foo", signature(obj = "bar"), function(obj , x, y) { new definition } , where="package:pkg") results in the error Error in setMethod("foo", signature(obj = "bar"), function(obj, : the environment "pkg" is

need creative solutions for number portability
I'm presently working on an office move and evaluation of telecommunications services needed at the new location. I'm presently wrastling with an issue related to portability and geography between landline carriers. Presently certain people within the organization are hopelessly in love with our 909-822-xxxx number(provided by pacbell/att). As that number is presently provisioned it

Country numbering plan resources
Is there any good free / accurate online resources with detailed country numbering plans? Failing that let's get something running ourselves. I was also thinking maybe people present could contribute some information on this list for now. The countries I am after are below. To start this off I will provide the information for Australia +61 and New Zealand +64. NZ Cellular: area code 21

NPA NXX data
HI all - I know, slightly off list, but.. I'm looking for a NPA NXX database with City and State. Actually it's for an Asterisk routing app I'm working on. I see several vendors that want a few bucks to those that want an arm and leg. I expect this is published somewhere by some government agency, but Google hasn't got me to it yet. Deleting a tc filter rule
Hi, I am very new to tc. I added a filter using the following command: tc filter add dev eth0 V parent 20:0 protocol ip prio 1 handle ::128 u32 match ip tos 0x44 0xfc flowid 20:1 To check if the filter rule was indeed added, I run tc filter show dev eth0 parent 20: This gave me the following output: filter protocol ip

Becoming a VOIP provider
This is a bit off topic, but I'm not sure where else to start. I've got a friend in Australia who works for a big ISP there. I guess they want to provide VOIP service to their customers. Can anyone give us an idea how someone can, I guess, purchase phone lines to sell as VOIP lines? I'm a bit lost here, but basically what is needed to become a VOIP provider? Would you buy a bunch

Local Calling Area database?
Is there an easy way to get information about local calling areas out of telcos? I'm trying to get a list of area codes and prefixes in my local calling area out of Verizon, and it looks like they've stopped providing the information online. Is there an easy source that I'm missing, or do I need to call them and have them mail me a copy every few months? Scott

Asterisk BRI in the USA
Hey all, It such a shame that BRI technology is such a flop in the USA. For a small office such as mine it would be a great product. So her goes my question.... What is a known asterisk working BRI card that will operate in the USA. I need to weigh price/quality. I need to do DID/DDI (or what ever you want to call it). Asterisk will do everything else I need. The ILEC has at the other

Strange behavior with time-series x-axis
I recently called plot(x,y) where x was an array of POSIXct timestamps, and was pleasantly surprised that it produced a nice plot right out of the box: z <- as.POSIXct(c("2006-10-26 08:00:00 EDT","2007-10-25 12:00:00 EDT")) x <- seq(z[1],z[2],len=100) y <- 1:100 plot(x,y,type="l") The X axis had nice labels, one tick mark every other month. ADSI phone vs. IP phone
Assuming the price of an ADSI screen phone (say, Aastra 390) was the same as an IP screen phone (say, Cisco 7960) and someone was setting up an * server for their 20 employees (each of whom would have either an ADSI or IP phone on their desk), would there be advantages to using the ADSI phones over the IP phones, or vice-versa? For discussion, let's assume that the hardware needed to

'System' application exit with error even if it performs the job as expected
Hi, When I try to run the command wmix to mix two WAV files recorded by the Monitor application I get the following warning in the console and the macro exit at that point. Running the command from a standard system console it works. More, even from this macro it works and produce a valid mixed file, but still get that error and the macro cannot continue. Why? I have tried even with a simple
