if else lop
I am trying to use if...else loop and have included a code snippet which I might like to expand. Maybe you could steer me in the right direction. library(stats) library(prob) { a <- sample ( 1:4,100, replace=T,prob=c(0.1,0.2,0.5,0.3)) b<-sample(3:6,100,replace=T,prob=c(0.2,0.2,0.2,0.4)) } dd <- data.frame(a,b) if (subset finds a vector) ( print that vector) (else

Still can't figure out ACL issues
...e ACL structure is is not valid'. Followed, of course, by the unwinding call stack. 4) smbclient //localhost/netlogon -UAdministrator -c 'ls' nets me the message: 'Domain=[ozco] os=[unix] Server=[Samba 4.3.1] NT_STATUS_INVALID_ACL listing \*' After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I did a setfacl. Now, 'samba-tool gpo aclcheck' returns "uncaught exception - (-1073741790 'access denied')". I really would appreciate any help you can offer! -jimc

OpenLDAP setup and bootstraping in CentOS 6
I'm having trouble getting openldap through its initial setup. I created a /etc/openldap/slap.conf file with a default rootdn and rootpw, and they didn't seem to take effect. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth I found that if there is a config directory at /etc/openldap/slapd.d, it will ignore slapd.conf. I can't figure out how to translate slapd.conf into the (new?) standard of slapd.d because all the examples I can find still use slapd.conf. Am I better off just deleting (or renaming) slapd.d? D...

Filter Ordering in Edge Rails (Rev 7143)
Filter chaining appears to behave in differently than Rails 1.2.x. It seems that I''m getting a lot of errors along the lines of: ActionController::ActionControllerError: filter #<ActionController::Filters::ClassMethods::BeforeFilterProxy:0x322f468 @filter=#<ActionController::Filters::ClassMethods::SymbolFilter: 0x322f4b8 @filter=:login_required>> was in the wrong place!

OT: BIOS upgrades and booting without a floppy drive
...e configuration is such that the DVD-ROM drive blocks access to the floppy connector on the motherboard, so I'm looking at minor surgery just to stick one in temporarily. Is there any clever way around this? Some way to make a bootable CD from the floppy image, for example? Or must I grit my teeth and bring out the screwdrivers?

dnf replacing yum?

After a while, I got used to it and now it seems normal. Plus, if you type "yum update" it responds "what your really should type is dnf update, but I'll do it for you anyway". -- -- Steve

thumbs up or down on ext3 with md?
I've read through the archives and it looks like people are using ext3 with software RAID with at least some success. I just want to confirm that it works properly. If I convert my md RAID 0 to ext3, should I expect A) A fast journalled filesystem, or B) Wailing and gnashing of teeth My RAID currently does not use persistant superblocks, because I created it many moons ago under the old raidtools. Should I convert it to the new style before making it ext3, or is is not relevant? Regards, Jeffrey Baker

SAMBA and NFS
...ing that can do the same thing but over IP. I am pretty sure Novell and AD can share files using Native File Access, but that would require the Novell admins to get CIFS setup on the Novell side. The Novell server we are using has NFS already setup and getting that much setup was like pulling teeth. ups question from your web site
Dear Nick, thanks for writing. I no longer work on development of UPS drivers; you will probably get a more up-to-date answer from the nut-upsuser mailing list (cc'd). I don't know if the Back-UPS 550 has similar commands to the Back-UPS ES 650. If it has a USB connection, then the answer is probably yes. The UPS will automatically turn itself back on after a power failure; this is the

32 Bit vs. 64 Bit Linux Server installation
Hi Centos Users What are the advantages of 64 Bit and respective 32 Bit installation of Centos? With PAE 32 Bit installation can address huge amount of RAM. As a desktop system, I prefer 32 Bit installation because of teething troubles in 64 Bit Linux world. When would you choose 64 Bit and when 32 Bit? We are running mostly application and web services. Is this true that with 32 Bit architecture the kernel is limited to 1 GB RAM? cheers Simon -- XMPP: sjolle at swissjabber.org
